Balmungo Cottage was originally built as the gardener and gamekeeper's cottage to the Balmungo estate in the 1850s and has been extended and renovated in in 2015 although there are always things that are being updated. It is situated to the south of St andrews , a short drive away and is on a quiet no through lane, taking about half an hour to walk into town. We have 1 guest suite comprising of a kingsize/twin room and a double bedroom, a private bathroom and a large sitting room where bi-fold doors open to a secluded terrace. Breakfast is served overlooking the views to the town, sea and mountains beyond. It has private guest access. We serve a full Sottish breakfast, with cereals, fresh fruit, anrtisan breads and home made preserves. We try to source our produce from Fife where possible and our menu can be adapted to suit personal taste or allergy considerations. A true tastes of the area to start your day Guests are welcome to enjoy our terrace and gardens and we are happy to serve breakfast outdoors, weather permitting, for you to enjoy the views and wildlife including deer, pheasant, buzzards, and the odd rabbit on the lawn! We have extensive knowledge about local experiences to inspire you and are happy to help with booking.
We moved to St Andrews in 2015 from the south of England and are enjoying life living near the sea and such a beautiful town. I come from a background in fashion and design and love what Fife has to offer for the arts and Alan is an avid golfer with a passion for the garden. We love walking by the sea and inland in the hills and are delighted with the wildlife that surrounds our peaceful cottage. We keep honey bees in the garden and are keen to encourage both them and wild bees and try to plant with them in mind. Vegetables are a challenge with our rabbit population! When we do not have bed and breakfast guests the house is usually filled with family and friends who come to visit and play golf. We love meeting our varied British and international guests and hope to enhance their Scottish experience.
St Andrews is a beautiful, historic university town with over 9000 students and known wordwide as the home of golf. It boasts 2 great beaches, botanic gardens, museums, theatre, cinema and many restauants of all types including fine dining and award winning fish and chip shops. From Balmungo Cottage you can walk to the town centre in just over half an hour and a few minutes walk up the footpath there is The Grange Restaurant .There are numerous walks and cycle ways from our cottage. Within a 12 mile radius there are aproximately 15 golf courses to enjoy and we can advise on booking tee times etc. With historical coastal villages and castles and Dundee, with its famous new V&A museum there is certainly lots to do on your stay.
