Property info

Bramble Bank sits in Higher Bockhampton, a hamlet on the edge of Puddletown Heath, 350m from the cottage where famous poet and author Thomas Hardy was born. This cosy retreat for two is ideal for walking or cycling in Thorncombe Woods, and a great base for exploring Dorset.

Neighborhood info

Information correct at the time of writing. Dorset is Thomas Hardy country and a visit to Hardy's Cottage is one of the many National Trust properties in the area to explore, and is just a few steps from the front door turning left down the lane. Under the Greenwood Tree Cafe is just a 150m stroll and is dog friendly with a dog washing station. Max Gate, the former Victorian home of Thomas Hardy and designed by him, is situated on the outskirts of Dorchester and also within walking distance of the town. Clouds Hill, the former home of T.E. Lawrence is an isolated cottage near Wareham and is also run by the National Trust. For those who are after some peace and tranquillity a visit to Sculpture by the Lakes set in 26 acres of glorious countryside, is the perfect choice, and only a short drive away. A family day out to Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World is always worth a visit and packed with fun for all ages. Shire Hall offers an opportunity to see where the Tolpuddle Martyrs were tried and is just one of several museums in the town. For those with an interest in the trade union history, the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum tells the story of the Martyrs' arrest, trial and punishment and a short drive away. The Roman Town House is the only example of a fully exposed Roman property in the country. Maiden Castle on the outskirts of Dorchester is certainly worth exploring, it is one of the largest and most complex Iron Age hillforts in Europe and the size of 50 football pitches. The county town Dorchester, is close to the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coastline, with the famous, picturesque Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. The Jurassic Coastline is home to over 300 coastal country walks, offering some breathtaking views over Dorset’s 200 million year old shoreline.
