Set in the small market town of Middleton in Teesdale, an Area of Outstanding Beauty within the Dark Sky area, boasts several tea rooms, it's own chip shop, Middleton in Teesdale Fish and Chips, Forresters Bar and Restaurant a family run country pub, hosting a monthly farmers market (4th Saturday in the month March-December) and with walks straight from your door, an excellent base for exploring the heart of the Durham Dales, Pennine Way and not to mention the Teesdale Way. A short drive east takes you to High Force one of England's most spectacular waterfalls, offering many walks around this area of outstanding natural beauty, open moors, flower rich hay meadows, intimate woods and curious wildlife a wonderful place to enjoy the great outdoors. Visit Eggleston Hall Gardens, the Secret Gardens of the North with a beautiful walk and nursery. A 20 drive away takes you to the historic market town of Barnard Castle (market day Wednesday) home to the famous Bowes Museum set in beautiful gardens and parkland, with the stunning silver swan and hosting various exhibitions which are well worth a visit. Just over an hours drive east will see you on the northern edge of the Lake District National Park, you can explore fells and lakes or enjoy the peace.
