Location was ideal , just off the A66 half way on my journey South. Definately up there with the best b&b we have stayed at. Very comfortable and peaceful, great breakfast. Loved the scones jam and tea when we arrived.

The highlights were the Bowes Museum ans the Castle. Finding food on Sunday evening especially was impossible. Barnard Castle is easy to get around, very compact. The town has some lovely independent shops and a LOT of very friendly people!

The whole town seems to be a happy place.

The whole town seems to be a happy place. A lot of interesting things to see and do within easy distance of the town. Plenty of shops and eating places. It does have some hilly streets but don't be put off, the area around the castle is beautifully laid out with seats to test when visiting the castle

Barnard Castle is a lovely place but the Main Street is very...

Barnard Castle is a lovely place but the Main Street is very steep so not good for people with heart or mobility issues. Be aware that most of the shops close at about 5 - 5.30pm so no late night shopping. The town is a good base for visiting tourist attractions in the area (Eggleston Hall Nursery and Gardens, High and Low Force waterfalls) but care required in choosing accommodation.

Barnard Castle has attractions for most.

Barnard Castle has attractions for most. We enjoyed the riverside walks. The castle has so much history as does the town itself. The Bowes museum is a place to visit, a museum like no other, the history of the place is incredible. Regular buses run here and there throughout the day, we just left the car parked up. Eating places for all tastes and lots of coffee shops.

A surprising town with quality shops, restaurants and cafes.

A surprising town with quality shops, restaurants and cafes. Mediaeval Castle (English Heritage) and nearby ruined Abbey (English Heritage - free entry). Also not far away in the village of Bowes is Bowes Castle on the site of a Roman fort with information in the mediaeval church. In Barnard Castle itself, The Bowes Museum has a large collection of art collected from the nineteenth century onwards in a French-style monumental building in its own parkland.

Nice place!

Nice place! We were out all day so not too sure what there was in the way of places to visit but there were plenty pubs and places to eat in the evening. Pretty market town - only downside was its built on a steep hill! Between that and the cobblestones its maybe not ideal for the less mobile visitor.

Firstly it was easy to find and ideally situated for visiting the town of Barnard Castle, golf course or the many other places of interest around the area. It had everything you needed within the property whether it be for a short or long stay. Our host made us welcome giving valued information regarding the property and places to eat or visit. A really nice touch was the arrival starter package of milk, eggs, cereal and others treats.

Beautiful property and very easy to find. Even though it was on a busy street, it was very quiet. Underfloor heating was lovely! Enough facilities available to us including toiletries/tea and coffee! Very central in Barnard Castle and Morrisons 2 mins round the corner. Plenty of parking available on the street free of charge as well!

Just lovely. Bang un the centre of Barnard Castle. The cottage was spotless, has everything you could want and is literally minutes away from shops, pubs and food. Parking was easy and there was lots of information about walks, local eateries etc.
