FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Center, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Center, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sports, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognized (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodations all over this happening city.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It was nice to see the Market with all the food store where we had a lovely lunch fully recommended it. Also we were lucky to see lots of community events around the town. Wonderful city to visit with warm friendly people. However we were sad to witness some areas of neglect especially around the steps where parts of the town wall and castle were. Just a tidy up would so improve this area.

I was in the area for the Tynemouth festival which I really enjoyed. I loved the market in the train station in Tynemouth and the market by the river in Newcastle. I loved wandering around and discovering all the historic places. I also liked the good shopping centre. It was so easy to get around on the metro and the staff were so helpful and friendly. I almost lived in Newcastle and I have ancestry in the area so it was a thought provoking trip for me

Newcastle Castle was a delight and, although I didn't have my children with me, it was very family friendly. The city is walkable and if you happen to be there on a Saturday there is a huge market set up along the river. There is a tiny coffee shop tucked into the castle stairs called Shapes, I had a delicious, iced latte there and I'd absolutely pop in as you go up or down the steps!

Newcastle has great restaurants (Dabawal, Chucho's this visit). The comedy club is reasonably priced and always fun (we saw Deage Paxton for a tenner). Great for shopping, and if you're outdoorsy it's just a short hop to the coast by car or Metro.

The hotel is in a good location but currently has many issues around the quality of the rooms although there was a note in the room asking customers to bear with them whilst refurbishments took place. Overall a disappointing experience

The ongoing massive roadworks and diversions in Gateshead, Jesmond and Newcastle completely spoiled our much anticipated and looked forward to holiday. We were looking forward to using the bus network to see a few of the many lovely places in the northeast, but they were disrupted so much that we ended up going to Whitley Bay on our wedding anniversary by taxi!. That was lovely and we had our dinner at Trenchers in the Spanish City.

I spent a couple of nights in Newcastle to explore the city . Hotel was great , helpful reception staff , comfy bed , fast Wi-Fi , efficient air con which was appreciated as it was unusually hot in Newcastle. Hotel very well located , few minutes walk to the city centre . Plenty of car parking available , seemed pretty secure. Never made it to breakfast, so can’t comment on its quality. Excellent hotel , more than happy to stay again

The hotel was ideally situated to access Newcastle city Centre . The metro was a 5 minute walk away and the train only took 5-10 minutes to get to the city centre. We had a quiet well appointed room. The breakfasts were very good with plenty of choices. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice , the food was very good with prices in line with most cities.
