"A vibrant city both during the day /night, although the night is more for the younger generation, lots of hen/stag parties, which appear to begin early am & continue through the night, plenty to visit, lots of history, & the location gives easy access to visiting further afield, be wary of the traffic system , lots of one way & bus only roads, but can be negotiated with a good navigator & lots of patience. A highly recommended city to visit & enjoy, river walks, bars & cafes on the riverside."

"Whitley Bay is back to being a lovely seaside town - the seafront area and Spanish City underwent a major refurbishment 6 years ago, which has made a big difference to the feel of the place. The seafront from St Mary's lighthouse all the way south to Cullercoats is lovely and open and great for walks, runs etc and the beach itself seemed really clear of litter. The town is easily accessible from Newcastle via the Metro, and you can also walk along the coast and get the Metro back. I had a lovely brunch at a cafe called Relish on Marine Avenue just up from Spanish City; very friendly cafe owners and good food."

"Plenty to see and do. I attended a conference on the Romans on Hadrian‘s Wall at the Customs House organised by the wonderful Arbeia Society. As for bodily matters I had a delicious fish and chips lunch at the Customs House during our break. I strongly recommend a visit to the Arbeia Roman Fort which gives a fascinating insight into the Roman occupation of Britain. The on site museum houses some fascinating artefacts such as for instance the Regina tombstone."

This hotel exceeded my expectations! For its price it was an amazing experience. I got an amazing room with a large amount of space and the location is fantastic. With there being a beach just a 5 minute walk away and bus stations right a 2 minute walk away, I got to enjoy my visit to Newcastle with little to no hassle.

I cannot answer this one sensibly.

I cannot answer this one sensibly. I grew up in Newcastle, married and moved south decades ago. It's changed beyond recognition, hopefully for the better. I returned to visit a sick family member, but will return again- and make it into a holiday. The Metro, although quite a distance from the hotel, was a very good quick way to Gateshead and to the coast.

Sunderland is a much under rated tourist place.

Sunderland is a much under rated tourist place. It has excellent beaches and parks, family and dog friendly with a vibrant shopping centre. Empire Theatre often has something on to see. Shame the national glass centre closed permanently. Love the Winter Gardens & museum with the dinosaur trail and value for money cafe. So close to the centre of the town and Mowbay Park so worth a visit with it's history.

It is a beautiful place, but there is not a lot to do especially with children. There was only 2 arcades which were really small, not many shops. We bought food and cooked for ourselves as nothing appealed to us to go and eat. We did have dinner at the Toby Carvery 20 minutes away one evening. It is easy to get around on foot and by car. There are lots of car meets in the evening with people revving and blasting music which really lets the place down especially when out on an evening walk and they are racing round the streets near St Mary's Lighthouse.

Have been visiting South Shields for around 60yrs with my parents for holidays, we have been with our children on holidays, now retirement still finds us visiting. Perfect holiday on the beach, entertainment/ concerts in bents park, relaxing park next door, fairground opposite and 5 min walk to the shops. Metro to Newcastle. Loads of places to visit marsden rock, the grotto. Mini ferry to North Shields for some more shopping. Coleman’s best fish and chips.

Hartley is a good place to stay with stunning beaches and an interesting lighthouse to look around at low tide- a good place to spot the seals! It makes a good base for visiting other attractions with some amazing castles a drive away and easy distance to a Roman fort and Hadrians wall. I would definitely come back.

North Shields is a delightful place with beaches, restaurants, promenades and different "village" locations to explore. The area was relaxed with many locals and tourists getting out in the good weather. Some nice places to explore all along the coast with many free car parking lots to assist. Well worth a visit with historical sites and wildlife combining to make it a special place.
