It was open doored, homely and welcoming, and guests were free to make themselves at home, around the gardens, and indoors. Suck a quirky, quaint property. Mike and Susie were very friendly and looked after guests personally.

Superb breakfast and excellent hosts. We were made to feel really welcome. We were staying for a furniture making course nearby ay John Lloyd Fine Furniture and will stay again if we do another course there.

Property info

Clayton Wickham Farmhouse dates back to the 14th Century. It is set in 3 acres of grounds, in a quiet and secluded position and is approached down a long private lane, approx 1.5 km equidistant from the villages of Hurstpierpoint and Hassocks. Accommodation is in the main house together with 2 bedrooms in the adjacent 16th Century Barn. All areas are centrally heated with flat screen television/DVD in all bedrooms and bathrobes and slippers for your comfort. In the Barn rooms there are tea and coffee making facilities, but in the main house refreshments are served on request by way of personal room service. Breakfast is served in the Dining Room or, in the Summer, in our Garden Room and our guests are welcome to relax in the Drawing Room, where there is often a log fire in the huge inglenook fireplace. In the garden there are many quiet sitting areas together with a tennis court and croquet lawn, golf and riding are also available nearby. Brighton and Hove are about 12 km and Gatwick Airport and Newhaven Cross Channel car ferry are both about 20 minutes away by car and London is 50 minutes by train.

Clayton Wickham Farmhouse is part of a small loose knit hamlet known as Clayton Wickham. Lovely walks can be taken directly from the property via the local footpaths and the South Downs and South Downs Way are nearby for serious walking or cycling. The property is 15 minutes away from Brighton, with its many shops and countless restaurants. In the village of Hurstpierpoint there are four pubs/restaurants and a number of interesting local shops. The property is also within easy reach of Gatwick Airport and the Newhaven car ferry and London can be reached in about 50 minutes by train.
