This was in an antique building, great view and well appointed room. The parking and check it were easy. The breaksfast was extra. so that was a bit dissappointing for a B&B. There did seem to be more "rules" at this one than the others we stayed...

Company info

Your hosts are the Thorpe family, who live at Cuilcheanna House. Having spent many years renovating the historic building to ensure it is both comfortable and beautiful, the family is pleased to share their home with you. Cuilcheanna (pronounced cul-kenna) is an ancient place where Neolithic peoples trod the shores. The house itself has stood since the 1700s, and has a wonderful history that we can share with you, including playing a small part in the Jacobite rebellion. We love Lochaber as it offers such a wide variety of experiences to the outdoor enthusiast and nature lover, and to those interested in Highland culture, folklore and foraging. It is a wonderful place to live and we look forward to helping you enjoy it too. There are things to see and do throughout the year, and we encourage guests to stay in every season, to appreciate the way the landscape changes and the atmosphere shifts in both the light summer days and the long winter nights. We can also help you to join guided activities with hikes, climbing, running or foraging, so just get in touch and ask for our advice.

Property info

Welcome to Cuilcheanna House, a peaceful and comfortable retreat offering eight lovely rooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. With views over the sea and mountains, the house is the perfect rest stop for people seeking tranquillity and natural beauty, either in Lochaber or on the way to the Hebrides, including Skye and Mull. Continental breakfasts can be provided subject to availability for an additional fee. Just let us know when booking. You can swim, kayak, hike, bike or run from the front door, or just spend your time on the sofa reading from our extensive collection of books. We don’t have TVs to encourage guests to switch off from screens during their stay. Organic coffee and tea is provided in your room, and there is a microwave, fridge and toaster available in the dining room so you can prepare simple meals. Cuilcheanna House is run sustainably; we are powered by renewable energy, avoid plastic and recycle and compost waste. We have EV chargers available for you to book too. Please be aware that there is a small, friendly dog living on site; she doesn’t access the guest bedrooms but will say hello sometimes if you’re in the garden or sitting room.

Neighborhood info

We are near to the awesome Glencoe that can be seen from our garden, and overlook the sea (Loch Linnhe) and the Ardnamurchan peninsula. On clear days you can see the Hebrides islands from the house. We are 20 minutes’ drive from Ben Nevis and the West Highland Way, and situated conveniently off (but not too close to) the A82, which is the main road running from central Scotland to the west Highlands and up to the Hebrides. We are close to the mountain biking and ski areas of Glencoe and the Nevis range, and look across to several Munros that you can enjoy climbing. The hiking in this area is unrivalled. Many guests stop at Cuilcheanna House while making longer journeys to Skye, Mull, the Hebrides, the NC500, and other Scottish adventures.
