The lively market town of Bala is located at the head of Llyn Tegid, Bala's famed lake, which is the largest natural lake in Wales and home to a peculiar fish called the Gwyniad, an Ice Age relic. Bala is well-known for its watersports, which include fishing, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, and whitewater rafting. It is also the home of the small gauge Bala Lake Railway. The town itself is rich in history, with a variety of intriguing shops, inns, and restaurants, as well as a historical Town Walk.
