The history of 5 Little street. The inside of the cellar stone walls date back to around the time Congleton got it's charter in 1272, possibly earlier. The original structure was made of wood, and the brick arched cellar and brickwork for the upper floors were added sometime around the 1720s. Originally, the cellar bar would have been used as a cellar/ storage area. During the war, the cellar bar was used as a pub/ off license for the local population of farmers. Over the years, it has been home to various cafes and restaurants, and during the 1960s, it was the home of Richardsons motorbike shop. The other side of the building has been home to various shops over the years, including an opticians shop, victoria wine, various clothing stores, and more recently a key cutting business. During the 1950s, the upper part of the building was the start-up premises of Congleton plastics, who over the years has been taken over by various other conglomerates and are now part of a large global corporation.
