Hatchet Pond Cottage is in the perfect location for explorers and adventurers. Open Forest stretches for miles just over the road – including Hatchet Pond, the largest body of fresh water in the New Forest. Around the corner (about a mile away) is beautiful Beaulieu - home to the spectacular Beaulieu Motor Museum and Palace House, plus Monty’s Inn for hearty food, and a charming High Street of bijou shops including boutiques, chocolatier, deli, galleries, vintage finds, coffee houses and tea rooms. A gentle stroll away in East Boldre is The Turfcutters Arms, a proper dog friendly New Forest pub. There’s also Chapel Stores - stuffed with essentials as well as treats such as delicious local food and drink including cheeses, chutneys, jams, honey, beers and gins. This is the New Forest larder as foodie paradise. Close by you’ll discover New Forest Activities Centre for everything from bike hire to bushcraft and canoeing. There’s also Buckler’s Hard – an historic18th century waterside village on the banks of the Beaulieu River that recently featured on BBC TV’s Digging for Britain. This is where Britain’s most important ships of the period were built including HMS Agamemnon – Nelson’s favourite. Just five miles away (although in different directions) are both Brockenhurst, a village in the heart of the Forest with mainline station (hop aboard for journeys to Bournemouth, Southampton and Winchester), and Lymington, the gorgeous Georgian market town
