The team at ‘This Is Not Here’ have taken their inspiration from all the good and bad experiences they have had through extensive travelling across the world to create what they believe is a unique brand. The concept is to create memories, not just stays! It is all about the customer experience.
Having spent our careers and vacations traveling the globe staying in all sorts of places, we thought we’d take all those ideas we gathered to create a unique luxurious location here just East of York. The cottages are luxurious, unique, very private and within a gated property. Each cottage is uniquely decorated with antiques, paintings and prints many of which are for sale. We have tried to ensure that your stay is a memorable experience and would love to hear your feedback for how we could improve, or what you loved. There is minor building works going on within the grounds of the main house through August
Skirpenbeck is a village in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England and is circa 8 miles from York or Malton. The place-name 'Skirpenbeck' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Scarpenbec. It derives from the Old Norse skerping and bekkr, meaning barren land by a beck or stream. It is near Stamford Bridge, over the River Derwent, near where King Harold of England defeated Harald Hardrada King of Norway in 1066. Its first baron was Sir William de Chauncy, son of Chauncy de Chauncy. The parish church of St Mary's is a Grade II* listed building, there are markings on the church building (near the bell tower) that appear to be Saxon. The village is a farming village and very quiet. It is lovely to walk through the village and take in the local architecture or countryside. Many of the farms in the village are fourth and fifth generation farmers. The village was also home to the following: Alick Walker the palaeontologist was born in Skirpenbeck. Thomas Cooke the famous machinist was the school Headmaster in Skirpenbeck James Lloyd who was an English Artist
