Built in 2019, the apartment at Maple House is self-contained and occupies the right-hand half of the ground floor. It has its own front and back door, shower room and large open-plan living space, which includes kitchen, dining and sitting areas, plus a patio providing a beautiful view over the valley. Sound insulation ensures privacy from the rest of the house and, as the entire property was designed from the outset to be wheelchair-friendly, there are no steps anywhere.
The spacious comfortable accommodation sleeps four, thanks to a bedroom for two (double or twin singles to choice), and a generously sized double convertible sofa in the sitting area. It has underfloor heating which can be augmented by a woodburning stove.
Satellite TV and wifi are provided.
We are a retired English couple who have made Scotland their home. Having project-managed construction of Maple House, our outlook is practical and down-to-earth. Jane is a dog lover, particularly of corgis, Norman's hobby is classic cars, and we are both regularly involved in village activities.
Village facilities include a pub, shop, garage and children's playground, all within three minutes walk. The adjacent village of Kirk Yetholm has a church (CoS) and another pub, which is a favourite of hikers as it is the official end of the famous Pennine Way.
Despite being in a sparsely populated area, Town Yetholm is not isolated: the market town of Kelso is 15 minutes away by car, and there is also a bus service.
Edinburgh is within easy reach: Tweedbank and Berwick stations are both 35 minutes drive on quiet roads and both offer regular trains straight into the heart of the city, the scenic journey taking about 50 minutes. Moreover, Berwick is a fascinating town, well worth a visit in its own right.
