We are Richard and Jackie and we live across the courtyard so are on hand during your stay should you need anything. Piper Cottage is the most recent addition to our holiday let portfolio, joining the four apartments in The Carriage House. We enjoy hosting and have been lucky enough to have some lovely guests from all over the world. We have a number of other properties, all within the same courtyard, and can sleep 24 guests or 36 guests in total if using sofa beds.

Property info

Delightful cottage in a great village location with off road parking. Tastefully furnished with underfloor heating, double glazing, gas central heating, wood burning stove. Easy access to A64 (1 min), York (6 miles), Leeds and Harrogate. Two bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom. Sofa bed in the sitting room sleeps two additional guests. Downstairs cloakroom. Fully fitted kitchen with fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Small patio for outside dining. Access to fully enclosed (shared) garden a few minutes walk from the cottage. Three other properties available in the same courtyard for larger groups. We can accommodate 24 people.

Neighborhood info

The village is surrounded by stunning countryside and there are a number of public footpaths for those who enjoy walking. There is an enclosed children's playground in the village. The nearest pub is The Nag's Head in Askham Bryan. We suggest you book a table. The pub is dog-friendly. Ingrish Hill, the subject of the poem 'Upon the Hill and Grove at Bilbrough' by Andrew Marvell is a two minute walk from the apartment. The poem was written for The Lord Fairfax. Thomas Lord Fairfax ("Black Tom"), the Parliamentary commander-in-chief in the English Civil War, is buried inside St James's Church in Bilbrough, near York. He lies in a tomb within the side chapel (Fairfax Chapel) alongside his wife, Anne. York is only four miles away and there is a very good Park & Ride service from Askham Bar. Leeds and Harrogate are also very easy to get to by car or public transport.
