The Best of Exmoor is a small, independent letting agent based in Porlock Weir. We love Exmoor and take great pleasure in sharing it with our guests. Property info
Sharpe Cottage is a lovingly restored stone cottage on the edge of Wiveliscombe, blending classic country style with contemporary comfort. It sleeps up to 8 guests across four individually styled bedrooms: a king-size room with en suite shower room, two double rooms (one on the ground floor), and a twin room, all finished with Egyptian cotton bedding, bathrobes, slippers and hairdryers. There is also a family bathroom with bath and rain-head shower, plus a downstairs loo.
Inside you'll find a cosy sitting room with a log burner (starter logs and kindling provided), a large and fully equipped kitchen with an Aga, electric oven and hob, integrated fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and bean-to-cup coffee machine, plus a separate dining room, study and a quaint conservatory offering extra space to relax. A welcome hamper with wine, bubbles, cider, bread, jam and biscuits awaits on arrival, and tea and coffee are provided to get you started. An iron and ironing board are also available.
Outside, the newly landscaped enclosed garden features a large patio with luxury seating for eight and a private hot tub, ideal for evenings under the stars (guests are asked to observe the hot tub rules provided, including a 10pm curfew on use). This is a lovely, homely base for exploring Somerset and Exmoor.
Private off-road parking is available for up to three cars, with a free public car park just 200 metres away for any additional vehicles. Wifi, heating and electricity are included. Two travel cots and a high chair can be provided on request, making the property suitable for families with young children. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome for a supplement of GBP 30 per dog. The property is strictly non-smoking.

Wiveliscombe - known locally as 'Wivey' - is a friendly market town on the southern edge of the Exmoor hills, set among rolling Somerset countryside between the Brendon Hills and the Quantock Hills.
The town has a long and proud history as a centre for agriculture and brewing. Its handsome Georgian and Victorian buildings line The Square and Silver Street, and there is a strong community spirit with a weekly market, independent shops, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it an excellent base for a quieter Exmoor holiday.
Town Amenities
Wiveliscombe has a good range of everyday shops and services for a small town. You will find a Co-op supermarket, a post office, a pharmacy, a butcher, a bakery, and several independent shops selling gifts, antiques, and local produce. There is also a medical centre, a dentist, a primary school, and a library. The town has a heated outdoor swimming pool (open in summer), sports pitches, and a recreation ground with a children's play area.
Nearby Shopping
Taunton, approximately 10 miles to the south-east, is the county town of Somerset and the nearest large shopping centre. It has Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose, Asda, and Lidl supermarkets, a wide range of high street shops, and the Orchard Shopping Centre. Taunton also has a cinema, a museum, a theatre, and a mainline railway station with direct services to London Paddington.
For Exmoor-specific shops and visitor centres, Dulverton is approximately 12 miles to the north-west and has the Exmoor National Park Visitor Centre, several independent shops, a butcher, and a chemist.
