The place was much bigger than we thought. The owner was quick to respond to our emails. There were plenty of games to keep our children occupied and if the weather had been better I am sure we would have spent more time in the outside space....

Set at the foot of the Blackdown Hills, The Apple Press is an 18th century barn conversion offering spacious and comfortable selfcatering accommodation. The accomodation has a generously sized, well equipped kitchen with plenty of work surfaces and cupboard space. The dining area has seating for six around a large table - ideal for family meals and evening board games of which we have a selection. The sizable vaulted sitting room with its original exposed beams has comfy sofas and armchairs with a log burner - perfect for unwinding in the evenings after a day of exploration and adventure. Adjacent to the sitting room is a light and spacious ground floor bedroom with access to the secluded courtyard. This room has a zip and link king sized bed which can be separated to form two singles. Originally retained scissor trusses are exposed throughout the upstairs and galleried landing. The twin room has two full sized beds with bedside tables, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The double has a King sized bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and plenty of space for a travel cot. The two courtyards are solely for guests use. In the main and larger courtyard is a table tennis table, swing bed and outdoor dining table with seating for six. In the smaller secluded coutyard there is a masonary bbq, outdoor lounge seating, a cosy summer house with comfortable sofa and lighting - a light an airy place to sit peacefully in the summer wth the doors open and read or play board or card games. To add to the cosyness in the winter an electric flame effect stove heater will drive away any cold and a firepit outside is available year round for sociable eveings outdoors. Situated just three miles from the county town of Taunton, Sweethay is a quiet hamlet in a peaceful setting. The Apple Press is perfectly situated to stay put and enjoy the locality or from which to act as a base to explore the beauty of Somerset and further afield.
Hi I’m Sarah, I love looking after my family, walking my dogs in this beautiful countryside and meeting up with my freinds when I can. As the Apple Press is adjacent to my home and shares an outlook to the main courtyard, I am easily on hand to help out should there be a need but unless you contact me I’ll leave you to enjoy your holiday. The main and smaller courtyards are soley for your use during your stay.
Sweethay is a hamlet consisiting of eight houses and a working farm. Footpaths can be walked from the accomodation but dogs must be kept on leads as sheep and in the spring, lambs occupy the fields. On Sweethay Lane the farmer sells eggs, logs and seasonal vegetables. A 15 minute walk away is the village of Trull with a village shop, delicatessen, pub, community cafe, playing fields and Trull waterfall (which is definatley best seen after some rain) Taunton town is just a ten minute drive away with a mixture of high street and independant shops and coffee houses. Viviary park in the centre of Taunton has a high ropes centre and and mini golf course as well as a cafe, play parks. It's a great place to stroll and picnic. Park in Fons George car park just a 5 minute drive from the property. Remember to pay and display. The interactive Museum of Somerset is set in Taunton Castle and follows the history of Somerset through the ages, it is free to enter. Heading South and into the Blackdown Hills about ten minutes from the property is The Wellington Monument a 175ft tall obelisk . It is a visible feature landmark for miles around and overlooks the town of Wellington. It is run by the National Trust and you can book a tour to climb to the top. Kilve beach on the North coast is very stony but a great place to find fossils and the West Somerset Railway is a heritage railway running 20 miles from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead with stations in between. It's a great day out and a great way to see the west Somerset countryside.
