This fairytale 17th century stone and thatch cottage is a listed building which retains many of its original features. It is set on the edge of the village in the National Trust Lockeridge Dene which is a Conservation Area within the North West Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Cottage is surrounded by a field full of Sarcen stones, some of which were taken from the area to build Avebury and Stonehenge stone circles. The Cottage has 3 good sized bedrooms, 2 of which can have twin beds or a king size double, the other is a standard double. There is a open plan kitchen/living room with a wood burner. The bathroom has both a bath and a walk in shower. There is a garden with a table and chairs for your exclusive use. If you are not up for site seeing or walking, the cottage is a great place to sleep, relax and rejuvenate with its cosy wood burner and super comfy beds.
Jessica is a semi-retired market researcher now enjoying country life with her dogs and horse. I live next door so if you need anything I'm around.
The village of Lockeridge was an ancient Templar village, this means there is no church, but luckily we have a great pub with good food instead. For shopping, pituresque Marlborough (3.5 miles away) has many indenpendent shops, pubs, resturants and a Waitrose and Tesco supermarket. The cottage is located 3 miles from Avebury UNESCO World Heritage Site which includes the famous stone circle as well as West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill, these are all some of the world's best examples of Neolithic construction along with Stonehenge (25 miles away). The famous Cotswolds are a 50 minute drive away, with Lacock Village (Harry Potter film location) and Castle Combe a little closer. Highclere Castle, where Downton Abbey was filmed, is a 40 minute drive (book in advance). The stunning university city of Oxford is an hour away. The West Woods are a short walk up the hill from the Cottage. They are amazing in late spring with a carpet of bluebells, but also beautiful anytime of the year. We are on the North Wessex Downs so it is great walking country with lots of free access.
