Our house was built in 1831 as a coach staging post. It later became a post office but is now a family home. The area where your bedroom, shower room and sitting room are situated would have been the old stables and Bothy. We can supply a secure shed in which to keep your bicycles and the parking is at the rear of the property. Your rooms are private to the rest of our house but this is a family home and we ask that you respect this. We have three dogs, all of whom are friendly. We have very thick stone walls and whilst we will do everything to guarantee broadband, it can be temperamental. There is a new 4G mast locally which helps reception. There is a large working farm next door so there is passing farm traffic and the noise of cattle and sheep. We are very well placed for visiting the National Trust properties of Wallington and Cragside which are close by and we are not far from Alnwick Gardens or Belsay Hall too. Newcastle for the theatre and entertainment is 25 miles south of us. We have two local pubs, one of which serves good food and there are many places to eat in Morpeth which is nine miles away. Please contact us prior to arrival about directions to The Old Post Office B&B.
Hugo and I have lived here for twenty five years. We have three adult daughters and two very friendly dogs. As a family we like to sail, ski and canal boat around the industrial heartland of England! We both work but know and love Northumberland so would be delighted to help you plan your days here - there are wonderful walks nearby and a lot to see and do.
Northumberland is a large, beautiful and sparsely populated county with plenty of opportunities to walk and bicycle - but a car is essential. We are situated next to a busy working farm so there’s inevitably some traffic noise from this and the sound of cattle and sheep. We are 5 miles from the National Trust house, Wallington with its beautiful walled garden and 11 miles from Lord Armstrong's historic house and garden, Cragside, near Rothbury. There are beautiful beaches, the famous Alnwick Castle & Gardens and the historic market towns of Alnwick, Morpeth, Corbridge and Hexham all within thirty miles. Further afield - but easily do-able in a day - are the award winning outdoor museum, Beamish and the glorious cathedral city of Durham, also Keilder Forest, Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and Hadrian's Wall. We can help advise you where to eat and of good pubs and restaurants.
