I wanted a pleasant retreat close to Fountains Abbey and the Dales -- one that was a bit removed from neighbours so that I could practice my French Horn -- and this pleasant property, with, indeed "fields all around", was exactly what I was...

Company info

The Destination Ripon team is passionate about not only providing wonderful properties for people to stay, but also for sharing recommendations for Ripon. We want you to make the most of your time in our little city and to be able to enjoy its charms to the fullest. The company is young and seeking to grow by providing the best service and accommodation opportunities that we can. All three of our properties are different and have their own unique characteristics. The Old Telephone Exchange is cute, quirky, and set in the most peaceful of surroundings. It is a real getaway from the hubbub of everyday life. Cathedral View is modern, tasteful, and perfectly placed for the city centre, yet still in a peaceful location. Lastly, and certainly not least, Little Harries Cottage is our most recent acquisition. It is full of charm, functional and ideal for the kids and pet pooch to run around in a safe and healthy environment.

Property info

The original Telephone Exchange is located in the picturesque village of Bishop Monkton. Now converted to a cosy holiday cottage situated between Harrogate and the cathedral city of Ripon. Nearby is Fountains Abbey, Lightwater Valley and Newby Hall. Blessed with open fields on 3 sides, which includes a lovely spot to sit outside and unwind or watch the sunsets. The Bedroom has views over open fields with a door that opens to a delightful little seating area under a tree where you could eat breakfast al fresco. All linen is supplied for the bed, as well as bath and hand towels. The en-suite has a jacuzzi type bath with a shower overhead. The complimentary toiletries (shower gel, soap, hair conditioner and shampoo) are Sea kelp from Fine Scottish Soaps. These luxury products are perfect for sensitive skin, are dermatologically tested and have a wonderfully reviving coastal fragrance. The well equipped (including a dishwasher) kitchen shares an open plan space with the front room which houses a log burner. You will find a small supply of complimentary logs. Please order more directly with us or pick up from a local supplier. We will provide washing up liquid, a tea towel, dishcloth, soap, dishwasher tabs and a couple of laundry tabs. Double doors open to yet another view of open fields. You will be able to enjoy our gorgeous little cottage in peace. There are no neighbours to overlook the property. It's an idyllic hideaway. There is free parking for two cars. The village is a 400m walk and has a small shop and a pub serving food (The Mason's Arms). The 36 bus, which connects to Leeds, Ripon and Harrogate very 15 minutes, is 3/4 mile away. Please note, if you would like to bring your dog, there is a fee payable directly to the company. Contact us via the messaging system. It has hi-speed wi-fi!
