The Sportsman's Arms is a must stay. We plan to return and bring friends. The public walkways had breathtaking views, the breakfast and dinner were wonderful and so fresh, and the whole environment was very inviting. We particularly loved walking through the fields of sheep and into the local village.

FAQs about hotels in Harrogate

Sophisticated Victorian Spa Town

The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.

The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.

One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.

Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.

Options on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments near the train station, and guest houses with parking. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport to the south.

What Guests Said About Harrogate:

I was bit disappointed.

I was bit disappointed. Harrogate was a place I always wanted to visit for it vibe and Bettys Tea Rooms. However even though Bettys was brilliant, wonderful service and food there was little else to do there. The cost of the victorian baths was ridiculous to say the least. Nothing really to do at nighttime. even the staff working in bars there were saying how the town has turned into more of a retirement destination. Lots of closed down shops as well. such a pity

Spent 1 day at the Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park, a real gem, wonderful, only 30 mins by car from hotel. Spent 1 day at Harlow Carr gardens, again wonderful, travelled by bus there and back from hotel using bus pass and got reduced entry price to gardens because we travelled car free. Did Ripley Castle and gardens tour on last day, very interesting and enjoyable.

Harrogate is a beautiful town with lots of places to visit. Only a short distance from York, another beautiful historical place of interest. Brimham Rocks is a must on a nice day with children that have lots of energy and like to climb.

Valley Gardens (pick up a walking guide from Tourist Info).

Valley Gardens (pick up a walking guide from Tourist Info). Turkish Baths (fabulous!). There's also a guided tour. Pump Room & museum. "Harry does History" (free guided walking tour). Worth checking for a concert or event at the Harrogate Theatre or Royal Hall. Clothes shopping. Easy to eat prepared food which is healthy from shops like M&S. Great transport links (train & bus). If you play golf, Harrogate Golf Club has a super 18 hole course.

Friendly interesting town with lots of lovely old buildings, well laid out, reasonable shopping, good bus service which we used quite a lot, really enjoyed the Artisan market in Valleyy Gardens. Too few public toilets which were not even signposted.

We had a wonderful three-night stay in one of the Mayfield Grove apartments in Harrogate - absolutely fantastic in every way! Beautiful hotel-style decor, but with the warmth of home. Perfect location in a quiet side street, but easily walkable to the centre of Harrogate, great for us as we were taking day trips to Knaresborough and York over the weekend. Rainfall shower, cosy plush beds and all the amenities you’d need. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch too. I highly recommend Short Stay Harrogate for your next Yorkshire break!

The Crown Hotel is a lovely old hotel in central Harrogate near to the shops, bars and restaurants and the Valley Gardens. The room was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom had a good shower over the bath and plenty of hot water. The breakfast was self service and there was plenty of hot and cold food to choose from. The Churchill Suite is a great place to eat your breakfast. Had an evening meal which was very tasty and the service was excellent. The staff in the hotel were all very attentive and friendly.

Staff friendly and helpful. Buffer breakfast fantastic choice and buffet evening meal was one of the best buffets I have tasted and good choices. Room very good, sunny and bright, view over the grounds, very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again when back in Harrogate.
