A traditional 18th century stone cottage where you can enjoy a comfy room with a breaktaking view. The cottage is furnished with a mix of modern and traditional furniture, and offers spacious rooms. The main bedroom offers superb views of the Wye Valley and surrounding countryside from a small viewing balcony. This has a full ensuite bathroom with underfloor heating. The second bedroom has ensuite WC and basin facilties. The shower facility for this room is down the corridor and is not shared, and also has underfloor heating. The outdoor Horseshoe Annexe has a tiled floor with underfloor heating. It has its own patio area with far reaching views. Breakfast is in the dining room which also provides space to sit, relax and watch TV by the woodburner. About Us The Smithy is a typical country smallholding with a few sheep, hens, and two Labrador dogs. The atmosphere is informal, friendly and we hope you will feel relaxed and refreshed during your stay. Situated on the Herefordshire/ Welsh border, this Bed and Breakfast offers you an ideal base from which to explore the local area or to simply relax from the hustle and bustle of every day living.
The Smithy is three miles from the historic town of Hay-on-Wye in a small village called Clifford. Hay-on-Wye:- The town of Hay lies on the boundary of England and Wales and its history of being fought over by the English and Welsh has made it a unique border town. Hay is a busy, thriving market town which has developed a reputation as the second-hand book capital of the world, following the arrival in the 1960s of the self declared King of Hay, Richard Booth. Today, with over 30 book shops, it is also the setting for the international Hay Literary Festival held in May and a winter festival held in December each year. The Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains are two of the wildests, untouched and most beautiful mountain regions in the UK, making them ideal conditions for a leisurely walks and breathtaking veiws. For the more active, there are serious hiking opportunities, mountain biking trails, canoeing and many other outdoor activities.
