The property is absolutely stunning with Victorian Charm and quite a lot of history. Our room was large and inviting with coffee, tea, biscuits, a rain shower, and every amenity you could imagine. Fiona, James, and their pets were as inviting as they come. We felt like family for the evening. The breakfast was divine. Everything about this property blew us away and the price was quite reasonable as well.

This is an incredible place, one of those where the pictures (which are already great) don’t do it justice. Super spacious, loads of light coming in, amazing location, well equipped (everything you need and then the things you don’t know you need until you see them). Host is super responsive and helpful, and all recommendations from them were spot on.

The staff was exceptional. James was delightful, as was everyone we interacted with. No request was too big, and they always went out of their way to meet any and all request. The restaurant was top of the line! The chef prepared our Hereford steaks perfectly. The beds were comfortable. (Kudos for a working towel warmer) The location was walkable to everything in town. Truly wonderful experience.

What Guests Said About Hay-on-Wye:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 10

We have visited Hay-on-Wye many times.

We have visited Hay-on-Wye many times. We love the fact that it doesn't change. It is a delightful market town, with friendly people. We are normally in Hay for the book festival, so it was pleasantly less crowded. Shops, pubs and restaurants are all accessible . The surrounding countryside is stunning and the River Wye runs through the town, offering pleasant walks and activities . A drive, or walk up Hay Bluff is a must.

Hay-on-Wye is a nice, central location for visiting the southern half of Wales. The Brecon Beacon National Park is very close, as are many of the historic sites, museums, churches and cathedrals. Chepstow and it's wonderful shopping district and amazing castle are a short drive south.

I was there for the festival and always enjoy the buzz and talks. Hay itself is a lovely little town with good shops and places to eat/drink. I brought my bike and parked a few miles away so I was able to dodge the inevitable town traffic / parking issues.

Lovely community feel in Hay-on-Wye.

Lovely community feel in Hay-on-Wye. Obviously lots of bookshops (which we love) and lots of independent shops and businesses. There is a culture between businesses to promote other businesses and they will recommend each other. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back. Ate somewhere different every day and you can get light bites or full meals.

I was in the area for a horse riding break, and I stayed in Hay-in-Wye at the beginning and end. Hay-on-Wye has lots of quirky shops (including a hardware shop with more varied goods than you would imagine), an interesting layout, and I had a fabuous dinner at the Old Black Lion.

Stunning book town with so much going on!! Lovely pubs and restaurants, plus numerous coffee bars and shops. Our accommodation on a smallholding just on the outskirts of town was lovely - a real hidden gem!! The Saturday Park Run was also stunning, and so friendly.

The staff and breakfast were fantastic, the location was just perfect for a bimble around Hay-on-Wye and a short walk along the river to the cemetery where my grandparents are and the Warren without using the car, the swimming pool was the perfect temperature and lovely and clean, totally dog friendly and they even got a sausage each for breakfast, will definitely be back.

Great location just outside Hay and within walking distance of a well-stocked Co-op. Lovely and warm on arrival and throughout. Very spacious and tidy. Well-equipped kitchen, plenty of hangers, comfy bed. Good lighting. Fridge had butter and milk, bread in the bread-bin - much appreciated. We purchased some very tasty goats cheese from the owners.

It is a lovely place in a cute town with friendly staff. General decor is nice, lot of space to just hang out. And without a doubt, this was the best breakfast during our trip, and we stayed at some major chains. I'm not one for taking breakfast at hotels, but I highly recommend this one.
