Lydeard St Lawrence is a peaceful village nestled in a wooded valley between the Quantock Hills and Exmoor, approximately 8 miles north-west of Taunton in West Somerset. This is a quietly beautiful corner of Somerset where rolling farmland, ancient woodland, and the gentle slopes of the Quantock Hills create a landscape of great charm. The village has a fine medieval church, a traditional village pub -- the Bird in Hand -- and a strong sense of community. It is an ideal base for exploring both the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the wilder landscapes of Exmoor, which lies approximately 25 minutes to the north. Nearest Services Bishops Lydeard -- The nearest larger village, approximately 3 miles south-east. Bishops Lydeard has a village shop, post office, bakery, the Lethbridge Arms pub, and is the southern terminus of the famous West Somerset Railway. There is also a primary school and a doctors' surgery. Taunton -- The county town of Somerset, approximately 8 miles south-east. Taunton has a full range of supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Lidl, Aldi), high street shops, restaurants, a cinema, the Brewhouse Theatre, and Musgrove Park Hospital. The town centre has a pleasant pedestrianised shopping area and a lively indoor market. For specialist or larger shopping, Taunton provides everything you are likely to need during your stay.
