Weir/Duck Cottage is beautiful thatched cottage with park-like, two acre garden with river, natural ponds even a private weir! It was one house but now converted into two great self-contained units - Weir Cottage & Duck Cottage. Only Weir Cottage is available to rent although Riverside Lodge is availble via this site. The garden is shared but plenty to go around. Adjoining Duck Cottage is often unoccupied. The unfenced river, ponds and weir are beautiful but also make it UNSUITABLE for UNSUPERVISED children as potentially very dangerous. Sorry, no pets. Although 'chocolate box' outside, inside the cottage is very contemporary - an unusual mix. The original cottage staircase is a little windy so not recommended if limited mobility nor toddlers. Please note there are two bedrooms (sleeping three) - one with queen bed and the smaller room with a single bed. By prior arrangement only a further bed may be possible. One WC/Shower room (no tub). There is a cloakroom with further WC at ground floor level. The wonderful thing is that you are only a two minute walk to the High street with pubs, shops, reaturants andmtransport. X3 bus service connect Salisbury railway station and city to north and Bournemouth the south. Villages and towns in between. Outside the cottage the two acre garden is like being in the middle of the countryside rather than town centre. It is an idyllic mix. We do not impose a separate fee and we ask that outdoor footwear is removed inside the cottage and you leave the house clean and tidy. Of course, towels and linen are laundered for you. Car parking, on site, is free but at the entire risk of the guests as is use of the gardens. Children MUSt be supervised all the time due to water hazards.
Married to Lindy after we were bith widowed. and we are now very retired! We are not always at adjoining Duck cottage but our friend, neighbour and housekeeper, Sara is usually around. Either way we are only an easy phone calla way if you need anything.
The wonderful aspect of Weir Cottage is that pubs, restaurants and shops are all a few minutes' stroll away. The New Forest National Park is only one mile distant with countless miles of trails. Ponies, donkeys, cattle and pigs are all wandering free. Sandy Balls holiday park is also one mile away and has swimming pools, bike hire and more available to non-residents (fees payable). The very regular X3 bus service connects Salisbury to the north and Bournemouth to the south and places in between. Southampton is 30 minutes and Portsmouth approx 50 minutes drive.
