Finca San Mateo is the country estate of the Bonilla family. Originally from Antigua Guatemala, we have lived, studied and worked in North America, Europe, and Africa.  Our professional work has been in international education and nature conservation. Having travelled the world, no matter how far, and how long away, we always sought to return to this special place in the mountains, not far from where we were born, and build here a place of retreat that combines close contact with nature and quiet comfort to enjoy the beauty of Guatemala. While Finca San Mateo remains the family solar, we have decided to share it with select like-minded people. We offer a beautiful and serene setting, with refined architecture and comfort, close to nature, and delicious, hearthy food harvested from the neighboring land.

Finca San Mateo is a family-owned private coffee estate high in the mountains of Antigua Guatemala, nestled in 15 acres of primary forest, old coffee plantations and gardens at almost 6,000 feet above sea level, and just a 10-minute drive away from the cobblestoned streets, shops, and world-class dining of Antigua Guatemala. Rustic paths within the coffee estate allow access to the surrounding forest, ideal for walks and birdwatching. Far in the distance, the silhouette of the volcanoes invites the adventurous to a challenging climb. In contrast with the rugged terrain, the accommodations of this family country estate exude quiet luxury. Two private homes within the estate, The Manor and The Hacienda, are seasonally available for short-term rental. The property is run under the concept of Chambres d'hôte, as you are guests in a family-owned estate. You may expect to meet other guests as well as the owners in the property. Being within a working coffee estate, you may also encounter some of the estate's staff working on the various agricultural tasks related to coffee growing and processing, as well as gardening and groundskeeping. Feel free to engage with fellow travelers as well as your hosts and their staff, who will gladly share their knowledge about the estate, Antigua, and Guatemala in general. For a great start of your day exploring Antigua and its surroundings, enjoy the delicious included continental breakfast with fresh fruit and fruit juice, bread, butter and preserves, and freshly ground and brewed Antigua coffee, which we grow and roast in the estate.
