Lodge @ The Old Barracks opened its doors to the public in July 2018, after a significant restoration of the existing building Guests now enjoy the comfort of King size beds, Quality Linen, locally inspired furnishings, Flat Screen TVs, Wooden floors throughout and Breakfast is served in The award winning Old Barracks Restaurant on site. Located on Cross street in the heart of Athenry Town our guests are less than 5 minutes from Athenry Castle, Athenry Heritage Centre, Local Shops and Athenry train station provides regular trains in and out of Galway City Daily. With a Cake Shop & Pantry located downstairs, Beauticians, Hair Salons, Pharmacies, Pubs and Restaurants abound the streets of this most historically significant Heritage Town, The perfect base to explore Co.Galway, Galway City and The Wild Atlantic Way......We look forward to meeting you during your time with us! Neighborhood info

Athenry or Baile Atha an Ri, meaning "Ford of the Kings" is 20km east of Galway City. It is a town very much defined by its medieval past. As a strategically significant Anglo-Norman outpost in an area dominated by Gaelic Irish families, it had a tumultuous history. Medieval Athenry was twice the size of Galway City at that time and its town walls rank amongst the best in Europe. Athenry was even bigger than the Medieval city of Dublin. The town had at least 6 towers of which 5 survive, and 5 entrance gates, but only the north gate still stands today. Now a thriving community the streets abound with Florists, gift shops, antique shops, pubs and restaurants. Athenry Castle and Park is the focal point of our Town and we are well serviced by Train, Bus and Motorway routes.
