Villa Coccodrilla is directly on the lake with a private swimming dock and private beach, just minutes from the village of Bogliaco, the town of Gargnano and the city of Toscolano Maderno. The villa is built snug right between the hill and the lakeside, its porches and terraces reaching right onto the beach, and when the water level in the lake is high, the lake reaches right up to touch the villa itself. It sits on the edge of the lake like a satisfied crocodile, and thus the name “Coccodrilla”. The house was built by the famous Belgian architect Leon Stynen, as his own personal vacation home, and it has been published in various journals. The villa has stunning views, its a high exposure to the south east offers fabulous sunshine, as well as unforgettable views every time of the day and night. Built right up against the lake's edge, when you look out of the windows you can see only the wide open scape of the lake and its far shores, much like if you were on a boat...or looking out of the eyes of a crocodile! There is one portable air conditioning unit that you can position wherever you need it most.

Many tourists are attracted by the large and beautiful beaches of Toscolano Maderno, and by its mile long beach promenade, but Toscolano Maderno has also many interesting monuments and museums: - the 12th century Church of Sant'Andrea is one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque churches in northern Italy; - the parish Church of San Pietro and San Paolo built in the Renaissance style of the 16th century with its 22 paintings by the famous Venetian painter Andrea Celesti; the Valle delle Cartiere (the valley of the paper mills), a wonderful site along the Toscolano River is not only a Nature Park but also one of the most important industrial archaeological sites in Europe. The largest old former mill standing in the valley is now a paper museum. On a walk upstream, you can find the ruins of other old paper mills standing along a lush-green gorge that offers you the opportunity of swimming in water holes or bathing in the fresh waters of the river in a beautiful scenario in nature. You can visit this valley on foot or by bicycle; the Roman Villa built by Publius Nonius Asprenate in 38 AD. Here the visitor will find headstones, mosaics and remains of a few frescos.
