This is an outstanding unique property if you like hot thermal spas. While I am not a fan of public bathing I found some hours when no one was there and I snuck in. What a luxury!!!! For next year I am getting suite with the private hot thermal...

A tranquil space where you can live in harmony with the seasons Nestled on a vast 5,000-tsubo (approximately 16,500 square meters) site, Hanzuiryo boasts only 14 detached cottages, creating a luxurious space that cherishes the harmony of Japanese tradition and nature. The buildings are constructed in the sukiya style, a masterpiece of Japanese architecture, and the garden, respecting nature, displays different expressions with each season, offering a sense of peace and tranquility to visitors. Each guest room is uniquely designed, featuring traditional techniques such as openwork transoms crafted by master carpenters, creating a nostalgic Japanese atmosphere in the entrance hall. Similar yet distinct furnishings are subtly placed in each room. Dinner is a monthly changing kaiseki (traditional multi-course) meal. The finest ingredients, sourced from across Japan, including the bounty of Kyushu's mountains and sea, are used throughout the year. Every detail, from the selection of tableware to the presentation, is carefully considered. Enjoy the chef's meticulous attention to detail evident in every aspect of the meal. Unzen Onsen has a long history, said to have been established as a therapeutic hot spring resort approximately 1300 years ago. From the late Edo period onwards, it became a popular summer retreat frequented by Westerners. At Hansuiro, the large public bath is equipped with an indoor bath, an open-air bath, a sauna, and a cold plunge pool. Special rooms also feature private open-air baths and saunas, allowing you to fully enjoy the hot springs. Enjoy the seasonal scenery from the open-air bath constructed from rocks and savor an exceptional "hot spring bliss." A stay at Hanzuiryo promises a wonderful experience, where you can immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery and traditions of Japan and receive warm hospitality.
