Really friendly staff, and the food is fantastic. A shame that we didn't arrive at the property sooner to really take advantage of all they had to offer. Got to try pounding mochi in the morning!

Company info

The owner was born and raised here in the quiet mountain village of Fukuji Onsen, in the heart of Okuhida. Because the owner and the main Japanese staff have lived and worked here for a long time, they can share not only information, but also the unique charm, culture, seasons, and atmosphere of Fukuji Onsen. The inn also has a few friendly multilingual staff members who can assist guests in English and Chinese, helping visitors feel comfortable and supported throughout their stay.

Property info

Soene in Fukuji Onsen is a unique riverside ryokan created by relocating and restoring a historic Hida farmhouse registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, offering guests an authentic stay surrounded by nature, traditional architecture, and natural hot springs. The property features traditional Japanese spaces centered around an irori hearth, where guests can enjoy kaiseki meals in the on-site dining area. Dinner is served from 6:00 PM, and breakfast from 8:00 AM. Guests have access to multiple onsen facilities, including an open-air bath along the river, a semi-open-air main bath, and free private baths with both indoor and outdoor tubs. All baths are continuously fed by natural hot spring water directly from the source.

Neighborhood info

Unlike crowded tourist areas, life here moves slowly, alongside mountain streams, changing seasons, and natural hot springs. One of the special charms of Fukuji Onsen is its atmosphere. The sound of flowing water, the smell of fresh mountain air, steaming outdoor baths, and nights filled with stars create a kind of calm that is difficult to find in modern cities. Guests can enjoy real Onsen culture while experiencing local traditions such as irori fireplace dining, river fish grilled over charcoal, and seasonal ingredients gathered from the surrounding mountains. Located near Kamikochi, Takayama, and Shin-Hotaka, Fukuji Onsen is also an ideal place to stay for travelers exploring the Japanese Alps — offering not only convenience, but also a chance to slow down and truly relax after a day of sightseeing. For travelers looking for nature, authentic hot springs, and a peaceful mountain atmosphere, Fukuji Onsen offers a memorable experience that feels genuinely connected to rural Japan.
