We are an enthusiastic couple from The Netherlands who first visited New Zealand in 1997 and after visiting again in 2013 started the immigration process. Our goal was New Zealand, our dream was Halfmoon Cottage and on the 17th of July 2015 we became the proud owners. We speak Dutch, German, English, and a little bit of French and we invite you to come and stay with us in our little slice of paradise in the Akaroa area. Cor & Margo

Property info

Nestled at the head of Akaroa Harbour, Halfmoon Cottage offers comfortable accommodation. Spacious bedrooms, shared facilities as shower, dining, lounge, kitchen. Beautiful gardens outdoor seating and verandas around the whole house to relax and follow the sun or shade just as you like. Well-equipped kitchen and BBQ facilities. The house and gardens are not wheelchair friendly. Enjoy a bike ride or walks to explore the harbour and surrounding mountains and bays. Bus stops at the Cheese Factory.

Neighborhood info

Akaroa is founded by a small group of French colonists in 1840. Oldest city in Canterbury. The town possesses many historical buildings in French style, narrow streets and a pretty harbour. In the middle of the town is a beach where you can swim. Our guesthouse Halfmoon Cottage is a 5 bedroom villa from 1896, homelike decorated and self catering. We are situated in Barry's Bay which is 12 km before Akaroa, a short drive of 10/15 minutes. View from the cottage is on to the Onawe Pa. Easily to walk from the cottage and on top of this island you have a 360 view over the harbour.
