Orange Tree Cottage sits separate from the main house offering a degree of privacy & independence. Our property is about 3.5 acres in size with a mix of fruit trees (including avocados, plums, limes, oranges, figs & apples) plus grazing. We usually have a couple of cows and a few chickens. They all help us to be more self sufficient. We are adjacent to the beautiful and sheltered Ohiwa Harbour, an ideal place for kayaking, paddle boarding or walking around. It’s also a great place to fish. Kenny, my husband has two outdoor businesses, KG Kayaks and Mighty Motu Bike Tours. Check them out on Trip Advisor. His local guides are full of great stories and know the best spots if you’re keen to explore. Otherwise I can tell you about many delightful walks.
We’ve travelled a fair bit ourselves and enjoy meeting guests from all corners of the globe. Rest assured, that regardless of your beliefs or place of origin you will be welcomed here in the sunniest corner of New Zealand. After 20+ years of living here we still live this area and think that you will too. We're located beside Ohiwa Harbour, a natural inlet on the Bay of Plenty coast. It's a place we love and we encourage you to explore the area while you are here. We're co-ordinators of the local care group and we've seen the benefits of reducing pest species, with a huge increase in native birds such as weka, kereru, fantails, kingfisher, bellbird & tui. All of them are regular visitors to the Cottage.
It’s a rural/ coastal area with great empty beaches, wonderful walks in native bush and a wide range of outdoor activities.
