We are Dim and Sascha, the founders of Duara. For nearly twenty years, Zanzibar has been an important part of Dim's life. As the founder of Kite Centre Zanzibar in Paje, he has spent countless years on the island and loves sharing his favourite beaches, restaurants and hidden gems with our guests. Sascha's passion lies a little further inland. After living and working as a safari guide in South Africa and Botswana, she fell in love with the African wilderness. Today, alongside Villa Duara, we're creating our next dream: Duara Safari House in Tanzania's spectacular Ruaha National Park. Together, we created Duara to bring these two worlds together — the relaxed rhythm of Zanzibar's coastline and the magic of East Africa. Although we live in the Netherlands, we spend as much time as possible in Tanzania, where we're personally involved in every detail of our projects. Villa Duara has been designed with the same care and attention we would want when travelling ourselves: a place that feels welcoming, comfortable and truly like a home away from home. We respect our guests' privacy, but we're always happy to help with local recommendations, hidden beaches, restaurants, excursions or anything else that makes your stay even more memorable. Villa Duara is located in the peaceful village of Pingwe on Zanzibar's beautiful east coast, directly opposite the iconic Rock Restaurant. Unlike the busier parts of the island, Pingwe offers a calm and authentic atmosphere where life follows the rhythm of the ocean. Restaurants, beach bars and local cafés are all within walking distance, making it easy to explore without needing a car. The famous Blue Lagoon, Starfish Beach, Kuza Cave, Jozani Forest and traditional dhow excursions are all close by, while Paje's vibrant kitesurfing beaches and the historic streets of Stone Town can easily be visited as day trips.
