My husband arrived in Paternoster from Zambia. I was first introduced to Paternoster in 2014 when I entered a Braai/Barbeque competition - the South African Braai Master TV show. We had to camp on the beach in mid winter and despite being freezing cold and the salty sea spray seeping into every piece of clothing and dish we prepared I fell in love with this beautiful piece of paradise. So the plan came together and are now here owning a guest house and enjoying every moment. We would like to share that experience with you. I love to cook, to chat and to create. My husband likes to chat to guests and share his knowledge of wild life both on the sea and on the river. I think you should live everyday as if it's your last. The Cape Columbine Nature Reserve, with the only manually controlled lighthouse in SA and a desirable camping and fishing spot, Tieties Bay. Whales and Dolphins can frequently be seen beyond the breakers from the breakfast room. Seals and Penguins are regular visitors to the large boulders along the coastline. Prolific bird life makes this a bird watchers paradise. We even have a few beauties come to feed in our garden. If you have just arrived in Paternoster after a long flight, walk across to the Oyster Lounge for a sundowner or some fresh oysters. No need to get in your car. Wine tasting at our fantastic "Wine Tasting Lounge". Beer tasting at the local brewery. The Art Shed at the Paternoster Harbor is filled to the brim with lovely oil paintings leather work, pottery and jewelry. Our village residents are very talented. Fine local restaurants – are a foodies delight. Rock lobster is a local delicacy as well as bokkoms and our very own world acclaimed restaurant – Wolfgat. Many of their clientele stay at Gilcrest Place. Sporting activities on offer include kite surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, horse riding, electric bike rides and guided nature walks. Namaqualand – see the barren landscape transform during spring (Aug/Sept) into a carpet of colorful flowers stretching as far as the eye can see. Last must not least enjoy a leisurely walk on the beach.
