We offer guests one of the original double storey Victorian villa in Observatory built in 1888. The house has high ceilings throughout and has been painstakingly restored with original fittings with period appropriate fixtures and furniture There are oregon pine floors throughout the house with original marble fireplaces and wrought iron fireplaces intact. the bathrooms and showers are newly renovated with marble, glass and modern fittings. Locks and keys are original victorian fittings and there are no electronic locks. The property is surrounded by an electric fence and monitored by an 24hour alarm. Observatory is a trendy, diverse, LGBTQ+ friendly suburb with vintage stores, artist studios, and some health conscious food stores including medical cannabis stores. The suburb is monitored by a 24 hour community security service. We do not cater for the cheap drinking holiday tourist as we do not have facilities that are convenient for this type of tourist. We offer a comfortable, respectful, female-friendly environment for the "woke", environmentally sustainable traveller and for parents visiting their children at the university or medical school.

When you do arrive Sunita will need to spend some time going through the keys to the property and your room as we have mostly original locks coupled with security locks. If you need to check in a couple of hours before hand, please advise us in advance so we can try to make this possible. Please note that we avoid throw away/ disposal products as much as possible so we do allow the use of refrigeration and storage containers if required. Observatory is a trendy, young, diverse neighbourhood with healthy eating and entertainment opportunities. It is more representative of the newly emerging social fabric of a modern South Africa largely due to the large student population and a long left wing history during the anti apartheid years. The proximity to the medical school and the hospital means we have a combination of both hard working and partying students and their families. The community funds the Observatory Community Improvement District which combines community improvement with security and therefore also has a 24 hour patrol monitoring the area.
