Buccara Noetzie - Lindsay Castle is a self-catering castle set on the edge of Noetzie Beach in Knysna. This impressive stone-built structure, designed to resemble a medieval castle, sits dramatically on a rock overlooking the ocean. Inside, guests will find comfortable, well-furnished rooms and breathtaking views of the rocks and sea through its many uniquely shaped windows. The main entrance opens into a spacious lounge and TV area with an open fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. From here, three bedrooms are accessed directly, with an additional three located via steps built against the outer castle walls. Freelance chef services are available on request (subject to availability) and can be arranged prior to arrival. Please note that there are no on-site shops or restaurants; all necessary supplies can be purchased in Knysna, just 13 minutes away. The property is powered by solar panels, providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy source. This system ensures that essential utilities such as lighting, water heating, and basic appliances are reliably powered while minimizing the castle’s impact on the natural surroundings. Requires a 4x4 vehicle to reach the parking area. Guests should note that there are 105 steps from the parking area to the castle, making Lindsay Castle unsuitable for elderly guests or those with mobility impairments. With its dramatic architecture, rich character, and spectacular beachfront location, Lindsay Castle offers a unique blend of history, seclusion, and natural beauty.

Outside the castle boasts gardens to the front and sides and extensive fynbos and rock. There are no direct “neighbours” and the castle is very private and not looked over. The views to the front are the beach and waves crashing against the rocky outcrops. There are various stone steps leading down from the castle and gardens directly onto the beach – which is pebble directly below the castle rapidly becoming golden sand. There is a braai area [charcoal/wood] to the West on the sea-side and a sheltered eating area complete with table and benches. There are two sun loungers and two sun seats all with cushions. The castle sits within the Noetzie Conservancy established in 1999. What makes Noetzie so special? The castles of course – but mostly “the golden beach surrounded by forested hills, the dark waters of the lagoon, the rugged, ochre rocks and the thundering breakers that roll in row upon row”.
