Chris is a professional botanist and conservationist and completed his doctorate on fynbos at the University of Cape Town. Anna has a background in wildlife research and studied the behaviour and ecology of the Addo elephants. Together they share a strong interest in conservation, environmental education and responsible land stewardship, and enjoy welcoming guests who value nature and quiet outdoor experiences. Property info

Phillipskop Mountain Reserve is set on the slopes of the Klein River Mountains, with wide views across the surrounding landscape. The privately managed reserve covers 246 hectares and is dominated by the summit of Phillipskop, with extensive areas of indigenous fynbos. An important rock art site of local heritage significance is located within the reserve. The spacious eco-friendly chalets each have three bedrooms and are designed for comfortable self-catering stays. The open-plan living area includes a dining space with a large table, a well-equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, gas stove and microwave, and a comfortable sitting area with views towards the mountain slopes. A wood-burning stove provides warmth during cooler months, and solar hot water with electric back-up ensures reliable supply. Each chalet has a dedicated braai area on the mountain side and a large deck on the valley side to enjoy the views. A naturally filtered swimming pool is available for the exclusive use of overnight guests. Guests are welcome to explore the reserve on foot, with options ranging from gentle walks to viewpoints and waterfalls to more challenging day hikes within the mountain terrain.

Neighborhood info

The surrounding area offers a range of food and wine experiences, including vineyards, distilleries, breweries and restaurants within easy driving distance. The nearby village of Stanford is known for its historic buildings, local markets held throughout the year, and access to the Klein River, where boat trips and birdwatching excursions can be arranged. Further afield, the coastal town of Hermanus offers seasonal whale watching and a variety of shops and restaurants, while Gansbaai is known for marine-based activities such as boat trips to Dyer Island and shark-cage diving.
