Places to Stay in Maibara

Fantastic location with amazing views of lake Biwa. Food was outstanding, especially dinner. Lovely onsen with the lake view. Hospitable staff speaking good English. Will stay again in a heartbeat, thank you!

Amazing food, pleasant staff and great onsen. Frequent shuttles to and from train station was a plus.

Breakfast is good. But location is a bit far from the station. Shuttle bus is convenient to/from the station, so it's not a problem except finding the dinner place near the hotel.

Spacious and clean and intuitively laid out. Great value for the price. The outlet power is fantastic for those in need of the full 100v. And the mochi potato cakes at breakfast were the cherry on top

Great house, lot of space, not too far from the station. Taka-san is nice, replies quickly, and helps with everything you need. You can use the bikes for free. Very good for the value.

Big room with huge bed includes all essentials, it also had a big bathroom with jacuzzi. breakfast of choice is provided in the morning.

Overall, there are a few standout things about this place. The location is absolutely gorgeous, it's a little town in the mountains where everywhere you look is just stunning. Other than that, the owner is fantastic, willing to answer any questions and helps with getting to and from the guesthouse - which is quite helpful given it's a few Ks away from the nearest train station.

Very clean and close to station, surrounded by delicious restaurant

The room was clean and entirely adequate and comfortable for a solo traveler who is not high maintenance. The was an electric kettle for making tea and cups and a tea bag, a robe, slippers, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and soap, a towel and had towel and water glasses. There was also a tiny fridge (which I did not plug in). It was a short walk from the station and not too far from the castle. The optional breakfast was not extraordinary but met my needs and espresso in the morning was a nice touch. I came into town in the evening to see the castle and its surroundings the next day. The hotel was very close to a number of restaurants. So it very comfortably met my needs and was quite affordable too.
