We used private transport to get around.
Location was central to where we needed to go.
Kids loved spending time in the pool.
The coffee van (pet friendly too!) out the front was helpful for parents in the morning.

The Warner's bay Hotel room #3 provided an experience so disgusting, uncomfortable and disappointing, that my mother and I saw more value in driving home early than in the $295 dollars we lost from our booking.
The check in the service was awful; we struggled to figure out where to check in and who to talk to because there were no guiding signs or staff to help out. When we found someone, we were only informed then and there that the hotel does not close on Saturday until 3am! And that 'it is a Pub so we should be lucky there was no band on". It would have been helpful to know this before booking.
Upon entering the room, we were immediately disappointed. The carpet was like it hadn't been vacuumed, the bedding had a musty smell and very dusty bed heads.
The bathroom was incredibly cramped and dirty. I found yellow stains on the face towels, grubby tiles.
Behind the curtains and filthy spider-web covered windows was a view of an industrial air conditioner in a shaft letting in little natural sunlight,
Worst of all was the loud droning air conditioning that the manager denied that he could hear. It would have been impossible to sleep with that noise.
I would never come here again.

Good base for visiting the very lovely Blacksmiths beach and Lake Macquarie. Found we could have done a lot more in the local area and surrounding Newcastle and Hunter region if we had more time available.
Recommend checking out Belmont 16s sailing club situated over the lake for a meal.

Swansea had most everything I needed, close by to the motel.
Swansea had most everything I needed, close by to the motel. I didn't have to drive for supplies, just walked, despite having a hire car. Also very close to my cousin's place, which was perfect.
First-timer in Swansea, easy to get around in a hire car I was unfamiliar with.
Caves Beach was awesome.
Found some amazing sourdough bread there at a cafe my cousin will now buy (the bread). Apart from family, also went there to find a stockist for our Tablelands Tallow all-natural hand-made skin and hair-care range. It would be special to find a stockist, as I was born in Newcastle in 1969.

Because I grew up in lake Macquarie, I have a fondness for the close proximity of lake, bush and beach. Nothing else comes close to this amount of peace and quiet, its not too touristy, but just busy enough to have a lot of choice regarding food, accommodation and lovely views of the lake!!

The house is located directly on the lake and the back wall of the house is glass for a fabulous view. Good quality furniture & well stocked kitchen. Ceiling fans in all rooms & air con in main living area & ensuite. A lovely modern comfortable house. Unfortunately there is no supermarket or corner shop nearby so best to bring essentials with you.

The property was extremely disappointing and did not match the listing or the price point. Several areas were poorly maintained, including a cracked window taped over, dusty surfaces, and a stale odour throughout. The bathrooms were below standard, with a stained tub and a second bathroom that was too narrow to use comfortably. Overall, the accommodation felt misrepresented, and we chose not to stay because it did not meet even basic expectations.

We loved The Waterfront apartment, it was really clean and very comfortable with all necessities. The host Di was very welcoming and very hospitable. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it.

Easy to get to off the freeway, very busy traffic, centrally located to Newcastle, lake Macquarie about 40min to vineyards. 2 clubs in walking distance. You need a car to get around Newcastle from Cardiff.

The accommodation part is a let down. Small dated rooms, very basic bathroom lacking shelf / bench space.
Bed is comfortable but curtains above bed let in lots of light as they are not against window frame so was hard to get to sleep with so much light coming in.
Downstairs pub area and food was great.

Lovely room - shame you have to step in to the shower to close the bathroom door! Also the sanding from the painters had not been cleaned up and there was dust all through the shower and in the bathroom floor
