Go to Hotel Punta Faro if you can! It has a wonderful sandy beach where you can snorkel. The staff make a huge effort to make you welcome. They set up dinner in a different location around the grounds every night. The food was delicious. There weren't too many choices, which meant that I don't think too much food was wasted. The Happy Hour bar is right on the waterfront where you can look at turtles and watch the sunset. The rooms are comfortable. and the hotel buildings are all attractive and spread out around the grounds. The highlight was definitely the location though, with palm trees and beautiful sea views everywhere you look. Jose on the boat ride over and back was very friendly and helpful.

We loved everything! One of the most beautiful places we have ever visited. The beach is stunning, food à la carte delicious, room was clean, water refreshing, staff friendly and helpful, especially Antonio, who was really carrying and who helped us with a trip to see luminiscent plankton (marvellous experience)!! 100% recommended!! We didn’t even care about WiFi connection, which was working fine btw at the reception and restaurant.

Great facilities. The room was very spacious and comfortable with a great view of the beach. The gym is well equipped with a wide variety of equipment from cardio to weight training. The personnel was great and very understanding. Great breakfast options. The restaurant in the new tower can get quite busy but there is always the option to go for breakfast also the the old tower next to it.

Pros: Cartagena’s colonial center is beautiful, the sunsets are spectacular, and the evenings are warm and breezy. Uber is inexpensive, the people are very friendly, and the Rosario Islands are close enough for an easy day trip. Spend your days enjoying the beach or exploring the Rosario Islands, and your evenings strolling through Cartagena’s beautiful colonial center. Cons: Restaurants can be quite expensive, and there are many street performers and vendors constantly trying to sell you something. Restaurants tend to over charge for water (order soda instead of getting served S.Pellegrino by default.)

You can’t beat the price & the beach is beautiful. The people were great & friendly. However I would bring mosquito spray & ear plugs bc if you get the room next to a generator it will drive you crazy. The best room is with the balcony so you could enjoy the sound of the waves & beautiful view, it’s definitely worth the extra money. Food & drinks were good. Take the taxi & boat suggested.

White sand beaches and gorgeous water! Able to walk around at night. Sometimes the music at the bars got very noisy - espeically since it went on past 10. So relaxing! Take a trip to the Rosario Islands - snorkel, see the tiny aquarium. Bring a book and hang out in the sun!

Hotels are pretty isolated, so you may not go to another restaurant in case you don't like yours. The beach on the 'more popular' part are facing the industry harbour and the rafinery, which impede the experience.

The restaurant in the hotel has a large menu, however they have a big consistancy problem. A meal can be really great one day, and it can be bad next day. The restaurant staff were kind, however a couple of them didn't have any serving experience. Our group (total 4) had never have our meals at the same time. They mostly forgot one or two persons' meals. Wine list can be larger. Isla Mucura is really tiny. It takes only 2 minute to walk to town. There is only two tienda in the town. We went to pier area and spent all afternoon chilling in the water, it was lovely. It takes about 2 hours to reach the island with speed boat from Cartegena. So, staying in the island is way better than the daily tours. Snorkeling is good, but visibility was low because of the waves.

Keep in mind that not all hotels have beaches, even though they do have access to the sea. Also remember that walking from one place of the island to another is not possible due to the mangrove, so most of the time you will need to take a boat, which usually is provided by the hotel at a cost. This is a place to relax under the sun, swim in the sea, eat delicious food, and do some low intensity activities like paddle board or snorkeling. It is not a place to explore the surroundings, have long hikes, or party

Wonderful city, always ready to be redicovered!

Wonderful city, always ready to be redicovered! It has history, flavour, and a magic charm that does not disappoint. It is important, however, for travellers to plan well/ carefully and be mindful of the fact it is not cheap and one can so easily be overcharged. I would advise visitors to go on a walking tour and enrol in a cooking class, that way they can actually learn more about the city and explore beyond the glitz.

Sunsets are amazing.

Sunsets are amazing. The sea is BLUE blue, and the reef is a swim away to explore. Very small island, to explore through day and night nature activities. Bring nug spray and bug bite gel. You will need it but you are on a tropical island so to be expected. Would have spent one less day there and one more in the Old Town area of Cartagena

Baru is not a lonely remote place where you will enjoy peace and quiet. Hotels and lodges are literally next to each other. There are many people. When swimming, be careful of boats and jet skis that drive here and there very close to the shore. But the sun and the sea make all that unimportant. There are also various excursion options.
