Chania

Old Town, Harbors & Ports, Unique Architecture
2268 hotels
One of 9,160 reviews:
"Chania is beautiful. I especially loved staying right in the old harbor. It was so beautiful to watch the town wake up and to sit on our balcony and listen to the lapping waves. The Cretan Renaissance hotel exceeded my expectations, so I would recommend this place to everyone."

Kissamos

Sandy Beach, Turquoise Waters, Boat Tours

One of 1,961 reviews:
"It’s a small town but we could enjoy walking along the beautiful beaches. There are some supermarkets so that we could get fresh vegetables and also fresh fish which were really tasty. There are a lot of buses and they are usually very on time. We could make our schedule smoothly and everything went super!"

Agia Marina Nea Kydonias

Sandy Beach, Beach Resort Area, Family Friendly

One of 913 reviews:
"Agia Marina is a great area for daytime beach clubs. I would recommend taking the bus at night to the port (Limani) for better food selection, more authentic bars and lounges, and overall social feel. Agia Marina is a good daytime spot and good place to stay in a hotel."

Kolymvari

Pebble beach, Religious & Spiritual, Harbors & Ports
90 hotels
One of 320 reviews:
"A nice, small city with plenty enough restaurants, bistros and bars, also nearby the beach with nice view. It's rather local experience due to the size of the city. There are regular groceries available, the city beach is all right for a city beach. It's very close to Kissamos (around 10 minutes drive) and if you want to visit Chania, it's only around half an hour drive. It's placed close to the main road on the north of the island, which is important since other roads, non main, are not so fast to drive on Crete. Prices are a little better than in Chania or Rethymno, but it depends on a particular place, overall overpriced restaurants are never worth it there, go for small, local businesses. If your goal is to explore the western side of the island, I'd recommend Kolymvari, Kissamos or around that area. Do not stay in Chania, really..."

Kalamaki

Sandy Beach, Beach Resort Area, Family Friendly

One of 454 reviews:
"We went into Chania and had a lovely time walking around the old town. It's a gorgeous harbour with a lot of Renaissance architecture from when the Venetians invaded in the late 15th century. It also has more ancient ruins. Kalamaki has a long beautiful beach that was only a couple of blocks from our hotel, Hotel Elia Kalamaki. It was a 1.5 hour drive to the famous beach of Elafonissi through beautiful mountains and past the famous Sophia caves."

"Four different but beautiful beaches, one next to the other. Clear water, white sand, fish, no big waves (actually none when I was there). All restaurants and shops in the main roads, but very quiet one block away from them."

Palaiochora

Sandy Beach, Hiking, Pebble beach
206 hotels
One of 1,285 reviews:
"Loved this small beach town! Just large enough to host so many restaurants and shops, but small enough to feel cozy and quaint. No matter where you stay in the main part of town you'll have easy (walking) access to all the eateries and beach. The beach (Pachia Ammos) is quite big, sandy, with calm water. It was fairly quiet (early May) and the beach operators were just setting up for the season, putting out loungers and sun shades. Our three nights here were not enough! This would make an excellent base to explore all the great places in SW Crete: Kandanos (so many hiking trails), Samaria Gorge, Anidhri Gorge, Sougia, Elofinissi Beach, etc."

Elafonisi

Sandy Beach, Turquoise Waters, Geological Phenomena

One of 444 reviews:
"The beach is amazing, one of the most beautiful we've ever visited. Water is turquoise and sand is truly pink at the water's edge. Loved long walks, shore swims and the sand was amazing. Next to the beach is a conservation area that is really lovely and I enjoyed the walk! Walk across the relatively shallow water to the island to the right of the main beach. Get there early especially on weekends else all the lounge chairs will be taken! Do NOT park at the first parking lot as you enter town, the rates are MUCH higher than the $5 lot that comes next!"

The hotel staff is incredibly kind and always ready to help. The facilities are fantastic — clean, well maintained, and very family-oriented. They even cooked fresh food for our baby every day and delivered it right on time with a smile! The food is excellent, and there’s a great variety of activities for both kids and adults. Having a supermarket inside the hotel is super convenient for last-minute needs like sunscreen or diapers. There’s also a car rental service and several tour operators on-site offering nice excursion packages. We loved the thoughtful touches, like the welcome basket with wine and fruits and the olive oil farewell gift. The bus to Chania stops right in front of the hotel, and the little train excursion to the lake is a perfect morning activity. The hotel app is also very useful — it has all the information you need for your stay.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and took great care of us. The resort is super clean, and our suite was just beautiful and spacious with 2 full baths and great a/c. The food was wonderful in both the main dining area and the resort restaurants. I am an American fluent in Greek so I connected with the staff. They are really nice people. We were there in late July so I don't know if the resort was at full capacity or not, but there were plenty of chairs available on the beach, plenty of room on the pool decks and in the pools. The water park at the back of the resort was so much fun, too. If you don't want to walk to the beach (which seems far, but it's really not) you can go via golf cart. The staff is there to ensure you have and enjoyable stay, and we certainly did. Τα περασαμε πολη καλα, Happy!!

Yiota worked the front desk. We were informed there might be a ferry strike which meant we could not leave Crete and go to Santorini. She was amazing. She made calls to the port authority, numerous times, and helped us figure out alternatives. The strike did not happen but we would have been prepared without her.

Great place to stay if you plan on visiting surrounding beaches. Then after sunbathing and swimming you can get to the hotel, refresh yourself and head to the town which was less than 5min away from the hotel where you can get delicious food in several restaurants and taverns. And if you still have energy after the whole day you can go to one of the bars for some drinks and music.

The location of the apartment is just right for everything.

The location of the apartment is just right for everything. The air condition in the rooms were very okay, The car parking space is highly needed because it is good to park the car somwhere safe. The housekeepers are doing a very good job by keeping the apartments clean everyday. The compound is very quiet and the simming pool is very clean. We enjoyed our stay in the apartment as a family of 4.

The relaxed atmosphere and the lovely apartment at Falassarna beach studio apartments. Excellent breakfast served in the courtyard overlooking the beach. The apartment was spotlessly clean with stunning views from the balcony. Plenty of tavernas nearby serving great food. A lovely beach within walking distance and Big beach a few mins drive away. We recommend having a car. Also walk up to Ancient Falassarna historical site. It is a 20 min walk and well worth it

Lovely restaurants and beach bars. A great butchers with quality meat for a BBQ. The beach is beautiful with shallow clear water, lots of sunbeds outside bars and cafe's. The people who live and work there are so friendly and welcoming. Taxi ride to the beautiful Chania for €18 Would absolutely love to go back!

A great place for a different experience of Crete.

A great place for a different experience of Crete. When you are in Chania, its nice to experience something new, especially when you have been before. 1 hour direct bus from Chania. Small town Very nice views, river and harbour. Plenty of hiking trails. Lots of resturants to choose from. Several artisan shops. River water was cold, making sea water extremly refreshing. Sun rises can be watched.

We've been to this area several times now and it's becoming one of our favourite areas in Crete. The beaches are very good with good facilities. Local transport is a breeze for getting around and there are many good tavernas to visit, Manny's in Kalamaki for instance.
