Aurora Serao was outstanding. So friendly, so helpful, she made our trip to Gallipoli a fabulous experience. We can’t say enough good things about her. We are planning a return trip this summer, just because she is there making everything perfect for guests. The property is absolutely spotless. The clean, sleek design of the rooms and the lobby also are soothing to the soul. Nothing too colorful, nothing too busy… We loved the beds, the linens, the bathroom … everything was near perfection. Can’t wait to return.

The Tobacco Suite was a beautiful boutique accommodation in the equally wonderful village of Mesagne. The room was a great size and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The pool was so lovely to relax in after a day of exploring. The breakfast was incredible! Everything was so fresh and plentiful. The wonderful staff were very helpful with anything we needed, from dinner suggestions to checking that we had parked somewhere that we would not get a fine. We felt very much at home in your welcoming accommodation. Thank you for having us. Jude and Trish from Australia

Well me and my wife, we liked everything about the Xilhotel in Gallipoli. The room was perfectly clean and well maintained. It was kept clean daily. Its aesthetics and comfort were beyond our expectation. It had a smart use of its space giving you the chance to organize your clothes and things, to avoid clutter. The bed was very comfortable. We could sleep very well. The toilet was very spacious. The room had a nice looking balcony with sea view where you could hang out and enjoy the peacefulness of the sea. The breakfast was another highlight of our experience there. It was a lot to choose from and the food was delicious, especially the pastry. We also had quality espresso and cappuccino during our breakfasts. The location was perfect. 2 minutes walk from the train station, 5 min walk from the bridge that leads you to the old town/island, 1 min walk from the main boulevard. The area was very peaceful so there was no noise coming from outside. And last but not least we are very thankful to the staff of the hotel (the ladies at the reception, the cleaning lady and the lady at the breakfast service). They were very professional and friendly. This hotel just made our holidays in Gallipoli, the best we have had so far.

FAQs about hotels in Salento

A Magic Southern Jewel

Comprising the south part of Italy’s Region of Puglia, the Salento peninsula is located in the ‘heel’ of the Italian ‘boot’. With an unusual and beautiful landscape, it also has traditions shaped by explorers and invaders from a variety of cultures that reached its coasts.

If Salento is a jewel, the main piece is definitely the city of Lecce. Its walled historic centre is greatly admired for the uniqueness of its Baroque style. It also has a Roman theatre and a Greek amphitheatre, both still in use. Try a hotel in Lecce’s old town and go back in time!

Blessed with the waters from the Ionian and the Adriatic seas, its rocky coves and small sandy inlets contrast with the light blue waters. Popular beach hotels in Puglia’s Salento region are located near the Alimini Lakes and the Portoselvaggio Bay.

Other important coastal areas are Porto Cesareo, Torre dell'Orso, Santa Maria di Leuca and Santa Cesarea Terme. Gallipoli and Otranto deserve a visit not only for their beaches, but also because of their beautiful historic centres, mostly shaped during the Aragonese domination of the area.

This was a perfect vacation in a beautiful place. We loved every second of it and are grateful that someone created and maintains this place. Let me mention some things: 1. Amazing food, every day there was something new for a dinner and always very tasty. 2. Very friendly and warm personnel. 3. Beautiful nature, starting from the pine trees behind the hotel and ending with the see where kinds love to play the whole day. 4. I was worried that using the small train to go to and from the beach would not be comfortable (because it goes only once in 30 minutes) but in the end it was very fun and nice way to go to the sea and back, kids love it. I was also afraid that if there is not enough place for everyone you have to wait another 30 minutes, but usually they send a van if not everyone got in. 5. The facilities in the hotel are not luxurious but they feel like home. Everything is very well thought about and works perfectly. 6. The hotel beach is great: very clean and nice and not crowded. You can get a drink or a snack during the siesta hours. 7. I really liked that you get your own table and place at the beach and keep it for your whole stay. No need to look for a new place each time, it saves time and nerves. 8. We also liked that it felt like 98% of all visitors are Italians. You hear almost none English which brings special flavour to your vacation. It might make it more difficult for your kids to hang out with others, but usually the animators know enough English to engage with kids. 9. Most of the visitors are families with kids which creates very nice atmosphere for children to see so many peers around. There were also couples, so do not think that this hotel is exclusively for families.

I visited Lecce in July 2026.

I visited Lecce in July 2026. The city is quite unlike any other urban area in Puglia. Wandering the centro storico is a joy (as it is, to be honest, in most Italian citta). I had never been a fan of Baroque architecture, but it is magical in Lecce, possibly because of the scale of it. I would recommend buying the "LeccEcclesiae" pass, which cost €21 and, despite that cost in my converted currency, definitely saves visitors money if they want to visit the significant religious sites included. This pass allowed me to go to the top of the Duomo's campanile (bell tower) for great views over Lecce. To do that as a stand alone, was €12! While in Lecce, I was introduced to the pugliese savoury snack called "taralli". Outside the old town, on Viale Francesco Lo Re, I had an amazing dinner at Ecce35 - Aperitif & Bistrot. I originally stopped only for an Aperol Spritz, but I ended up staying for cena and had the biggest and amazingly delicious pinsa I have ever had.

It's a beautiful town, with tight alleys, excellent for strolling. There are a couple of things to see, like the Co-cathedral, but the strong point are the restaurants and bars - very lively and high quality. Worth spending 1 day to visit and enjoy. The sea is really beautiful, transparent blue water.

The sea is really beautiful, transparent blue water. The shore decline slowly into the water, allowing fun for children and not swimmers. The beach itself is very crowded, almost not possible to walk trough the towels and the beach umbrellas. Most of the beach is free entrance, so you may save some money. The few organized beaches are always full. All along the shore you will find some beach restaurant and bars for the day. If you want to find larger beach and less crowded you shall take a car and drive 15 minutes to Baia deglie Angeli / Punta prosciutto. This is a small city on the coast, mainly visited by locals or italian tourists. It is not a typical tourist place with fun and shops. Most of the time you shall stay on the beach, because the shops will open around 5pm. Evening life start about 8 pm and it concentrated on a central street with some restaurants. Prices are fair. For the evening, you can find some action in Porto Cesareo (15 minutes) Santa Caterina (30 minutes) or Gallipoli (45 minutes). Take care that parking is really messy.
