This is a super hotel. We had a quiet room, a very very! comfortable bed, friendly staff and the location in Te Anau is great (close to restaurants and shops). Parking space around the hotel is limited but we easily found a place each day. It was a pity to leave.

We were extremely impressed by the owners attentiveness and welcome to his hotel. Also gave us tourists some valuable advice as to a specific scenic route we had overlooked on our onward journey south. Highly recommended accommodation.

Te Anau is a place that you can do as much or as little as...
Te Anau is a place that you can do as much or as little as you would like. It is family friendly, plenty of amazing walks or simply relaxing with a book over looking the lake. The restaurants we visited were top notch, the food ,service and overall experience was just great.

There are a few activities and places to visit. Excellent for photography. Getting to and out of Milford Sound can be challenging because of the weather and road condition which can be quite unpredictable.

Manapouri is a lovely little spot with a beautiful lake that’s incredibly peaceful and scenic. There’s a great second-hand variety store worth browsing, along with a small café and eatery for a relaxed bite. Surrounded by stunning farmland and natural landscapes, it’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the quiet charm of the area.

It was a very picturesque town with cafes, bars, shops.
It was a very picturesque town with cafes, bars, shops. Everyone was so friendly and you couldn’t pick a better place to stop to break up the long journey.
We ate at the Indian restaurant, Distinction Hotel on the Lakefront, the Ranch and the Olive tree cafe. All were great.

We drove our hire car from Queenstown and stayed just the one night as we had a Tour booked the next day on the boat. We enjoyed the drive and the stunning scenery on our trip to Milford Sound; however, if you are short on time, you can FLY straight out and do the Boat cruise in half a day. If you drive down- it's an ALL-DAY event and that is why we opted to stay overnight and travel back to Queenstown the next day.
There is only a CAFE in the town for quick food and coffee etc... There were limited places to pull up on the trip to have a meal. Lots of scenery and a long drive but enjoyable if you like car trips?

It was the worst motel I have ever booked into, it was dirty...
It was the worst motel I have ever booked into, it was dirty, the pillows didn't have pillow slips, the TV didn't work, there were cockroaches so we didn't even stay there so we left straight away and put in a complaint with Booking.com as we lost nearly $600 but nothing was done about it. Very disappointing experience !!!

Waking up to that breathtaking Lake Te Anau view every morning was unreal… so calm, so peaceful. Took it slow, went for a few walks, and just soaked it all in.
Stayed at Azure Accommodation and it was perfect – super comfy and in such a good spot for getting out and exploring.
One of those places you don’t want to leave 🌿✨

Staying in the Sound is special - it is a very short drive (minutes) to the cruise departure points. It's about 2 hours drive otherwise from the closest town to the national park. You are immersed in the environment and you need to be flexible in regards to weather - we had several road closures (can't leave the park), rain and significant snow fall at the Homer tunnel area. The Lodge did a good job of communicating the various conditions.

Beautiful lake and excellent Doubtful Sound Cruise. Very limited eating - Cafe - breakfast excellent with bakery and some provisions not open in evening. Church bar and restaurant closes early evening and has limited availability. 30 minutes drive to other restaurants, bars and shops in Te Annau.
