We stayed at The Lakes over New Year and it was absolutely everything we needed. The hosts were amazing , so welcoming and genuinely took great care of us throughout our stay. The place itself was beautiful, peaceful, and incredibly serene… the perfect getaway to truly unwind.
Waking up to the calm of the lakes was magical, and having access to stand-up paddle boards and kayaks made for such a fun and memorable morning out on the water. It added an extra special touch to an already wonderful stay.
We loved every minute and can’t wait to come back again. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful escape.

We are bicycling the Aotearoa route which this Holiday Park is situated. It is also in a location where we had time to enjoy the Kauri trees as we rode through to the Waipoua Kauri. The Kauri Coast Park has a nature walk which we really enjoyed. Our room had a beautiful view with large windows. As normal the room had a heater, the water was hot and the staff excellent.

Great place, clean and very quiet with good kitchen, comfortable beds, big lounge good for a big family and kids. A playground for children was a bonus. Great location, 10 minutes away from the lakes

Central pubs meals are fantastic value and absolutely delicious. The RSA was very welcoming and friendly. Dargaville is a lovely welcoming town with a fabulous museum, lovely historic buildings and very lovely friendly people. Everyone was very kind.

Pick a time of the year when it is not mid summer, it is much more relaxed and easy to get around. There are markets on a Saturday and these are worth a visit, the locals are friendly and welcoming.

Baylys Beach is a big long West Coast beach.
Baylys Beach is a big long West Coast beach. When we were there, it was very wild. Great for walks and I imagine surfing and fishing. Cars drive on the beach. There are surf lifesavers but I don't think the beach would be very safe for young children playing in the water.

Definitely a rural community.
Definitely a rural community. Activities available and the host offered to escort us up the nearby Toka Toka peak. The region offers a sample of New Zealand farm land. It can be as laid back or active as desired

We were only there overnight, stayed at Nellie's Nest, very comfy, and had takeaways from Thai Restaurant, delicious. Would have liked to look at more of the town as there were a few points of interest but we were on a tight schedule.

Jan greeted us at the door with a super warm welcome. The apartment is superb, very comfortable and beautiful. A surprise was a delicious sour dough loaf of bread all the condiments you could want. Herbal teas and plunger coffee. Yogurt butter and milk. Amazing. !!! Outdoor area and garden beautiful.

Supahn Thai Restaurant in Dargavill is very nice.
There is countdown and warehouse in Dargavill and we can prepare the enjoy at the lake or hiking at Kauri park.

Mangawhai is a quiet seaside, small town but it has everything you need for a wonderful seaside holiday. Lovely restaurants, safe boating, absolutely stunning beach for walks. Colourful quintessential kiwi baches are everywhere surrounded by Pohutekawa and other natives trees full of birds.
