"Great location overlooking Te Anau lake and the southern Alps. Incredible views. Very nice room with a comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. The host is very friendly and accommodating. He provided so much good advice on where to visit saving us a lot of time researching. Highly recommend staying there and we hope to return in the future."

"lovely countryside and the cafe and restaurant definitely worth visiting again. Shops were varied and I spent far too much money, the hospice shop was a great place to spend half an hour or more browsing. If you were self catering the main shops were there for you. Pleasant place to walk around as well."

Check-in was nice - we were a bit apprehensive because we were arriving late (by New Zealand standards) but staff were available to greet us and check us in and give us a tour of the facilities. We were also a bit apprehensive about shared bathrooms but there was absolutely no issue with availability. It was a bit of a cold night (for us) but the hotel and the room were well heated. The options for breakfast were satisfactory.

This is a super hotel. We had a quiet room, a very very! comfortable bed, friendly staff and the location in Te Anau is great (close to restaurants and shops). Parking space around the hotel is limited but we easily found a place each day. It was a pity to leave.

Te Anau is a place that you can do as much or as little as you would like. It is family friendly, plenty of amazing walks or simply relaxing with a book over looking the lake. The restaurants we visited were top notch, the food ,service and overall experience was just great.

Nice city, great cafes and restaurants.

Nice city, great cafes and restaurants. We went for the vehicle themed museums. Arrived Friday am and straight to Hayes - a hardware store but has displays of machinery, motor bikes and of course Burt Munroe's streamlined Indian world speed record holder. Saturday, we had breakfast at Motorcycle Meccas cafe (very nice) and spent several hours looking at the 300+ motorbikes - mostly classic and historic (1900's on) in a great old building (haberdashery I think) with a functioning old-fashioned lift. Then onto the Transport Museum just down the road - lunch in their cafe, then displays of classic and vintage trucks and cars (note you can get a discount buying entry to both of these places). Dinner at the Irish Pub (fantastic staff) and airport for home Sunday am.

Half-moon bay is a great base to explore Stewart Island.

Half-moon bay is a great base to explore Stewart Island. It has a small supermarket, 2 coffee shops and several tour operators. The highlight of our trip was doing the Kiwi spotlighting tour with beaks and feathers - got see at least 5 kiwis in the wild. We also did a tour to Ulva island and then later went back by water taxi to do the other walks there and bird spotting. We also hired bikes to check out the other end of Stewart Island. A lovely, quiet, remote place - great for walking and birdwatching.

Manapouri is a lovely little spot with a beautiful lake that’s incredibly peaceful and scenic. There’s a great second-hand variety store worth browsing, along with a small café and eatery for a relaxed bite. Surrounded by stunning farmland and natural landscapes, it’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the quiet charm of the area.

A 9min drive from Invercargill it was the right choice for us. We found the cabin & facilities excellent. Invercargill was extremely underwhelming for us so we're so glad we chose to stay close to the beach which was very cool! There is a 4 square, a cafe/restaurant very close to the accommodation

Quiet little town between Queenstown and Milford Sound.

Quiet little town between Queenstown and Milford Sound. Room rates are very reasonable; and the attached resturant was very good. The lamb shank was excellent! Fun place to hang with the friendly locals. It is a good 3 hour drive to Milford Sound from here (not the 2:15 the GPS will say) so you need to leave extra time if you have a boat tour scheduled. Mossburn is a good place to gas up your car before leaving for Milford Sound or Queenstown. Our room had a large attached bathroom, and the shower had great water pressure. Secure parking located behind the building gave easy access to the rooms. Don't be afraid to go to Milford Sound if it's raining; the waterfalls are even more spectacular!
