Ryokans in Matsumoto

The owner is responsive and friendly even we arrived late. It's the shared bathroom with all the guests but you can make it private for you & your family by changing the sign at the door. Just be mindful, not taking shower too long or too late at night. Beds are comfortable and clean. Car park is free.

Amazing homemade breakfast. Room and decor were lovely. Beds and comforters were very comfortable. Dinner was amazing - highlight of our trip. Highly recommend. Common room was super comfy, with its heated table and provided drinks and oranges. Pajamas also very comfy. Shared showers were clean and well stocked. Staff were friendly, helpful, and punctual. Location was great. 10 minutes to the train station. Lots of coffee shops nearby (too bad many don’t open till later) - recommend siphon coffee from Abe.

Lovely host. They were extremely welcome and were happy to help us with any questions and local recommendations. Highly recommend!

Comfy, great price, nice bath!

Our room had a private onsen with a great view of the Japan Alps. Room was spacious, comfortable with a great view. There were multiple onsens available for private bookings for the whole family, as well as a public bath. Checking in was a breeze. Dinner and breakfast was amazing! The kaiseki dinner was great. The kids had their own kids version of it and everything was delicious. Samue and yukatas are provided as well.

It was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend the half board option. It was delicious, abundant, and a unique experience.

My second trip in the last year. And I’ll be back again next year. Great helpful staff, wonderful setting. I love all of the book. And especially the care of presenting local food with great expectations of what you are eating. By the way their Macha donuts at their bakery are wonderful. I also took home a few bags of their special granola. Wish I’d brought more. I’ve been to Japan well over 20 times I highly recommend this lodging.

Very nice onsen baths, excellent food, beautiful location. I have food allergies which they handled very well. The staff explained and translated everything for us because it was our first ever onsen experience, and we had a great time!

the location is lovely--just outside of the national park, (near Kamicochi). The staff was very kind and friendly. We arrived later than anticipated, (after a long hike), and the staff phoned me to ask when we would arrive, when we would like dinner, and if we needed help getting there, (a nice touch). There is a comfortable lobby with small gift shop. Our room was a nice size for our family of 3, and traditional in style, (tatami mats, low table, no other furniture). There are small scattered lounges along the corridor that offer options to relax on couches outside of the hotel rooms). The restaurant was amazing and I would really rate the restaurant very highly. what a treat! This is a great mountain respite and I would highly recommend; a great value for the price as well.

Quiet, very traditional feel. Great location to Kamikochi

Very clean shared facilities. Close proximity to bus station to Mount Norikura area. Breakfast and dinner meals were plentiful in quantity and delicious in taste. The proprietors of the establishment were warm and friendly.

Shoho was an amazing experience. We had a family room with a private onsen/bath. I used the bath 2-3 times a day, and found it very restorative. The food was absolutely outstanding. We ate breakfast here, and also did 1 dinner as well. The dinner, despite being several courses, was modified to fit my severe food allergy. The way they accommodated my allergy made me feel quite special. Like I said, the food was outstanding, it was so incredibly delicious.

The breakfast and dinner were amazing. Some of my favorite Japanese food I've had so far. The rooms were nice, and the facility was clean.

Everything exceeded our expectations. We were looking for a traditional ryokan and this was it. The room was beautiful, the beds were comfortable, the onsen was gorgeous. We loved our stay. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They were very accommodating and were great at communicating with us in our language. The meals were very traditional and it was really fun trying all the different foods. We would return any time.
