Beautifully decorated room, very well equipped and very comfortable. Great location on a short drive from the seal sanctuary and a short walk from a great bar/restaurant and the beach. We ate a lovely meal, then watched the sunset and saw dolphins from the beach. A great stay, wished we were there longer and the host is lovely, friendly and helpful, Jack the dog is also a star.

The seaside view. Looking out to sea, moon shining, with a glass of wine each, discussing how many moons of Jupiter were visible.

The staff was terrific, incredibly welcoming and accommodating. The pub next to the hotel was an excellent place for dinner, and there was live music on Friday night! The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable, and the shower has hot water and adequate water pressure. This is also a great location, right in the middle of town with easy access to restaurants, shops, and the beach.

Very long and wide Beach.

Very long and wide Beach. Nice drive up the Coast from Greymouth. Stunning views; plenty of places to stop and take photos. We had a perfect clear blue sky day whilst travelling. We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful country.

We were in the Westport area for four days. The flight from Wellington was lovely with stunning scenery. Westport was a great place to base ourselves. We highly recommend Denniston, Punakaiki, all of the lovely walks and the Westport Salvation Army Op shop. Going to Karamea for the day was well worth it - this journey was a highlight as were the whitebait fritters at the cafe (Vinnies). I could have sat and looked at the beautiful ocean all day long. The silence and beauty of the bush was equally enticing.

Great place to explore, enjoyed the very short walk from our accommodation up to the lighthouse - views to die for. Great to see the seal colony playing in the water at Tauranga Bay - easy walk on a great maintained & easy track to the platform to see them. There are good walking and cycling tracks around the area and fantastic beaches. We enjoyed our meal and hospitality at the Star Tavern - just a 10 minute walk from our stay. It's only a short drive from Westport.

Waimangaroa is a great base to start a West Coast journey - we explored the old Denniston Mine and up the coast although we could have done with another night to see more. There’s a great little coffee place 5 minutes from the Coal Miner’s hut and we enjoyed tasty burgers from the caravan next to the brewery in Westport (an easy 15 minute drive away).

It's a small but nice town; there are many places you can explore, like the museum in the iSite, the lovely church, big public park, a lighthouse, a memorial, and the city council. You can also reach several trails and a sea colony.

The location is excellent especially if you enjoy cycling , the track to Charleston is very user friendly and is suitable for all riders , the track goes through lots of beautiful bush that is home to many birds. Bikers and walkers can also travel back to Westport and return, there are many information boards along the way describing the early settlers and the local wildlife. I highly recommend this coastal track for everyone.

Carters Beach is possibly the safest swimming beach on the South Island's west coast. Well developed coastal reserve with toilet, change and BBQ facilities. Popular local restaurants and only a short distance to the cycle trail, jet-boating, kayaking, bush railway and mining adventures. Westport City is nearby and the locally brewed beers some of the best in New Zealand - try their Pilsener ! Fresh fish and whitebait in season, locally baked pies including game meat options ; venison and pork ! Brilliant history and fantastic coastal features include Cape Foulwind and lighthouse, off shore islands with sea bird nesting, penguins and seals beaches, best visited from nearby Tauranga Bay. Take ya bike and ride the trail, its great

Westport is a blessing to visit the most beautiful, unspoiled part of NZ on the northern west coast. Grocery stores and an organic grocery and restaurants are great to enjoy and resupply for your road trip. We explored the beaches and old mining towns in the beautiful bush. We love it here.

We absolutely loved our time here.

We absolutely loved our time here. Everything was right on our doorstep, stunning walks, mountain biking trails, and even a great local spot for dinner at the Star Tavern just down the road. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the setting, tucked into the hillside near the Lighthouse walking track and Kawatiri Cycle Track, was just beautiful. We left feeling refreshed and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended!
