Has a great country town atmosphere and plenty of history can be found
Residents are friendly and willing to give advise when asked
Just remember , like all North Queensland areas, Do Not Ignore the crocodile warnings

Cooktown is always the place if you want to have a getaway...
Cooktown is always the place if you want to have a getaway from a busy work lots of adventures that you can do like fishing, the stunning beaches we drove to the Coloured sand beach it was gorgeous plus the history of Cooktown how it was discovered just go to the Grassy Hill lookout 👀

It is a very nice small town with lots of places to visit...
It is a very nice small town with lots of places to visit nearby. A four-wheel drive would be a better option to reach some locations, like Elim Beach with its coloured sands. The esplanade is amazing both at sunrise and sunset. Botanical Garden and Grassy Hill are other places to visit.

My advice would be to hire a car in Cairns and drive the 3.5...
My advice would be to hire a car in Cairns and drive the 3.5 hours to Cooktown. We walked, but were restricted by the town limits. Within a 75km radius of Cooktown you are able to access 'the bigger picture' of Cooktown.

Cooktown is a beautiful town with a lot of history.
Cooktown is a beautiful town with a lot of history. The museums are very interesting and there is a good choice of places to eat. Shipwreck was a great restaurant/ cafe with friendly staff and great food.

Wonderful scenic location with excellent historical sites...
Wonderful scenic location with excellent historical sites well mapped out. A must to feel the vibes and history in the foundation place of Australia. A great feel about the community who seem to get on fabulously.

Highly recommend
1. Terri is very kind.
2. Very clean - better cleaning quality than 5 stars hotel. (I am cleaning company's inspector). I never seen this cleaning quality in any accommodations.
3. Furnitures - I am using same bed and furnitures in my home. They are not accommodations level furnitures. It more expensive and comfortable. Specially this bed's mattress is very thick and heavy. It super comfortable for sleeping.

Three girlfriends and I road-tripped to Cooktown for a weekend of sightseeing.
Our hosts, Sue and Tony, were absolutely superb and the retreat is stunning!
We swam, we drank champagne, we ate Sue’s delicious home made pizzas and banana cake, we enjoy laughs and stories around the fire pit (with Sue and Tony).

Beautiful and large house, very well located in Cooktown. Rooms are large and nice, enjoyable terrace with view on the Endeavour river. Choice to use a ceiling mounted fan or air conditioning, which is very appreciated!
