For someone visiting Sanctuary Point for the very first time — especially coming from Canberra — this place feels like a quiet blessing.
Let that sink in: first time here, stepping away from a structured, busy city into somewhere slower, softer, and more peaceful.
Sanctuary Point offers a different rhythm of life — remote, calm, with very little noise. It’s quiet in a way that feels intentional, not empty. The surroundings are simple but genuinely beautiful.
Comparing the two, Canberra is organised, efficient, and driven — a place for productivity. Sanctuary Point, on the other hand, is where you pause, breathe, and reset.
Both have their strengths, but if Canberra is where you move forward, Sanctuary Point is where you reconnect.

If you want to stay a quite place and close to seaside, Sanctuary Point is a good place. We have 18 min drive to Jervis Bay. We had a morning walk and an evening walk at the Sanctuary Point seaside track which is so nice.

Sanctuary Point is a quiet community on the north shore of St. George's Basin, a salt-water lagoon. It is very close to the Booderee National Park at the south end of Jervis Bay that boasts many beautiful beaches, hiking (or bush walking) trails and a botanic garden.
There a few shops and dining places in Sanctuary Point, but most dining and shopping options are several kilometers north in Vincentia or Huskisson.
We found Sanctuary Bay to be a good base for our exploration of the Jervis Bay beaches.

The local Country Club is a great place with great bistro...
The local Country Club is a great place with great bistro club food and a fantastic Chinese Restaurant. The Club itself has everything, including Lawn Bowls and a Golf Course. The local shops, another Chinese Restaurant, a really good old school take away fish'n'chip and hamburger joint, as well as an awesome Cake Shop/Cafe that creates the most delightful Sandwiches, Rolls, Bahn Mi's and again, all the old school Aussie Cakes, Pies and Sausage Rolls that have totally disappeared from our larger Cities and Towns. St. Georges Basin, a large lake-like body of water is 44 minute walk down the street and is great for all water activities. It is a short drive to so many beautiful South Coast towns and a great centrally located place to stay.

Sanctuary point is a quiet relaxing part of Jervis Bay.
Sanctuary point is a quiet relaxing part of Jervis Bay. We enjoyed the natural surroundings and the sounds of nature.
There are local shops and a service station. We had pizza from a local take away which was nice. The local country club was nice and provides a courtesy bus service for free.
Sanctuary Point is central to all that Jervis Bay has to offer.
