The people there were so incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile. I loved experiencing some of the local traditions and celebrations that were happening while I was there. Even though my Kriol is not fluent, I managed to get by and learn a few new phrases, which was fun And the food? Oh my goodness, it was absolutely delicious with so many unique flavors. The scenery was breathtaking too, with lush greenery and amazing natural wonders to explore.

Its a great base for many of the outdoors tours, which should be taken advantage of, but if you don't have a tour booked for an activity, there's nothing to do in the town itself besides the iguana sanctuary or chocolate tour. Recommend 3-4 days. We stayed 5 and it was a day too much. ATM cave is a must, as well as xunantunich and a day trip to Tikal if time.

San Ignacio is the ideal starting point for tours to Mayan ruins Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol, and also Tikal , across the border in Guatemala. Hiking, cave exploration, river and cave tubing, horse riding are among the most popular here. Plenty of tour companies offer 1/2 day and full day trips. All guides with good English and Spanish!

We enjoyed going to three Mayan archaeological sites, Xunantunich & Cahal Pech which are close to the city & Caracol which is a little over an hour away. Also the 1000’ Waterfall, the tallest in Central America, which is just off the road to Caracol complicated.

Authentic Belize and great home base for Mayan ruins and caves. Easy to get around with a car. Lots of small groceries but don't expect american style grocery. Going to Xuna and cave tubing was a one of a kind experience. We tried for 2 days to go to ATM but it was closed due to rain.

Such a cute little town to use as you adventure base.

Such a cute little town to use as you adventure base. There are so many different activities and stores that it’s impossible to see and do everything in even a week. Everyone in town is so friendly and I never felt unsafe, even during the late night block party I stumbled on. Watch out for the casino though. They do not like it if you win anything, and they will make sure to finagle the money back. For us it was the ribbon “security” band on the US tender— after we won a few hundred dollars and then started loosing, they made sure to bring to our attention they “couldn’t take the only hundreds we had left” because of the ribbon, even though they prefer and want you to pay in US Dollars to begin with. They made sure this happened only after our winnings were down so that we left in the negative. Other than the casino, which I highly recommend you avoid, this is such a quaint cute little Hispanic town with the friendliest people.

The landlord was friendly and provided us with valuable local information related to obtaining cheap taxi rides to Benque or the border with Guatemala, it saved us atleast an hour. The room is exactly as the photos provided on the site. It was clean and tidy. Wifi reception was excellent. There are quite a few eateries and pubs around withing 300-500 meters. Cahal Pech Archeological Site is around 1km from this location. Sufficient clothes hangars provided.

Perfect placet to stay in San Ignacio, well officialy its located in Santa Elena, but it’s only a few minutes walking to San Ignacio to the restaurants. Room was well equiped with a small fridge, microwave, water kettle, airco, safety box, tv and good wifi. Everything was very clean also. Although it’s not a hotel communication was perfect, mostly by Whats App. Great price-quality ratio.

A simple but comfortable stay. They kindly let us check in and access the room very early following our morning arrival into San Ignacio. The place is kept clean and tidy and the kitchen has everything needed including free filter water. Nice location just a short walk into the town centre and very close to one of the best restaurants in town.

Great location with very short and flat walk in to town. Buses stop 100m away. Hotel is surrounded by bird covered trees, a delight in the morning. Free filter coffee. Really friendly and helpful staff and they allowed us to keep the room until 2pm for our taxi for which we were very grateful.

Clean, spacious room, 5 minute walk from the centre. Really helpful staff, who organised an excellent tour to ATM (cheaper than other operators). Great breakfast with toast, spreads, fruit, orange juice & coffee. Free water. Microwave available in the hallway, with the breakfast.
