The main house looks very nice, but sadly that was not where we got our room. They build a very cheap and ugly side building, which is nor even connected to the main house, and it is not very nice. The room is basic, so kind of OK, but to go to the gym, swimming pool or breakfast you have to walk through part of the garden to the main hous. OK when weather is nice, not so great when its raining.

It’s interesting to find little bits of history in unusual places. Parts of wall, arches for example or the bell bollards near the archway to the river. The town hall has lots of history on display. The river has its own magic. Plenty places to eat and have a drink. Great bus service to Oxford. We were there for a market where we purchased organic food, drinks and had a nice ice-cream. We enjoyed visiting a few hostelries. The Old Anchor. The Kings Head and Bell, a few others and look forward to returning there. It’s not our first visit and won’t be our last.

It’s a lovely town, Abbey meadows is particularly pleasant for walking (with or without dogs) as it’s where the river Thames slows to its source. Plenty of good places to eat/drink too. Enchanting.

Its a really nice town which is at the moment managing to keep its own character. Loads of history and interesting things about it. Lots of good pubs and restaurants. Lovely walks around the area including the Thames and the Ock rivers. Seems to be quite a few events going on as well. I would absolutely recommend it. Handy for other places - Oxford, even London.

As a college student in the 70s, I lived in Abingdon for 3 happy years. When I returned in 2025, my heart sank when we turned off the motorway and drove through the outskirts in heavy traffic, huge buildings all the way to the centre. Luckily we were able to park in the centre and thankfully Abingdon had not deteriorated. There were several independent shops and in the square several independent coffee shops too. Walking down East St Helen’s Street was still lovely as was the church, all the Almshouses were in good repair and walking by the Thames still a pleasure. Thankfully my fond memories are still intact.

Lovely hotel, warm welcome and a nice spacious room with a comfortable bed. Good directions given for parking. Breakfast was amazing with friendly service and a good selection cooked to order. Abingdon itself is a very nice place to visit - we had a couple of good walks along the Thames path and hired a rowing boat for a couple of hours (from AV boats - also highly recommended!) which was good fun!
